Happy Juneteenth! 🖤❤️💚

Today is a day of celebration.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when enslaved Black Americans in Galveston, Texas finally learned that they were free - more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been issued. Since then, Juneteenth has become a celebration of Black freedom, resilience, culture, community, and joy.

As a Blues dance organization, we recognize that the music and dances we love would not exist without the creativity, artistry, and cultural contributions of Black Americans. Blues music and Blues dance emerged from Black communities and continue to tell stories of joy, connection, expression, perseverance, and celebration.

Today, we're especially grateful for the musicians, dancers, innovators, and culture bearers whose legacy lives on every time we step onto a dance floor.

And what better way to celebrate than by gathering in community?

Join us tonight for Blues Underground as we celebrate the music, the dance, and the rich cultural traditions that make this art form possible.
