Last Thursday was our final practice of the summer quarter!

Our entire junior bogu team was finally together—and guess what? They’re all girls!

Enjoy the break, everyone! The fall quarter begins on September 17. We can’t wait to see you all back in the dojo!

What a fun day at the BHSK Annual Picnic!

Members and families from Bellevue, Highline, Sno-King, and Kirkland Kendo Clubs came together for a wonderful summer afternoon filled with great food, games, and lots of laughs!

Our potluck table was packed with delicious dishes from different cultures, and everyone had a blast with games — especially the watermelon smashing! We even had a raffle with some lucky winners taking home prizes!

Good food, great company, and so many smiles. Thank you to everyone who helped organize the picnic and brought food to share. It’s always special to spend time together outside the dojo and connect as one big BHSK kendo family.

Another junior has officially made her Bogu debut last week! Congratulations, Disha! 👏
Wearing bogu can feel a little heavy and unfamiliar at first, so we’ll gradually increase your bogu practice time as you get used to it. One step at a time!

It’s so much fun to watch everyone learn, grow, and take their next steps in their kendo journey.

Last weekend, approximately 30 Kenshi represented PNKF at the AUSKF National Kendo Championships in Las Vegas. Competing against some of the strongest kendoka from across the country, every member of the delegation gave their all and represented our region with pride.

* Michael Fontana – Kantosho in Individual Mudansha Division
* Clara Kim – 🥇 1st Place, Individual Junior Girls Division
* PNKF Women’s Team – 🥇 National Champions

A special shoutout goes to Sno-King’s own Emi Ichimura, who played a crucial role as Senpo (first position) on the PNKF Women’s Team. Emi’s strong performances throughout the tournament helped set the tone for the team and contributed significantly to their historic championship victory—the first Women’s Team National Championship title in PNKF history!

Congratulations to all who earned medals and awards. But even more importantly, congratulations to every competitor who stepped onto the court and gave their absolute best. The courage to compete, the lessons learned, and the friendships strengthened are what make events like this so meaningful.

Whether we won or lost, celebrated in victory or shed tears of disappointment, everyone came away with something to learn and work on for the next challenge.

Thank you to all the PNKF coaches, managers, volunteers, family members, and supporters who made this incredible experience possible. We are proud of every single one of our Kenshi and look forward to seeing their continued growth on the path of kendo!
