British boxer Colin Cairney has died at the age of 22 after sustaining severe head injuries in a tuk-tuk accident while holidaying in Thailand.

According to reports by British media, the undefeated Scottish prospect, who compiled a 10-0 professional record, was found unconscious on a road in Phuket at around 4:10 a.m. after reportedly falling from a moving tuk-tuk following a dispute with the driver over the fare.

Investigators believe Cairney had been returning to his hotel after a night out and had arranged to withdraw cash from an ATM to pay the driver, as he was not carrying money at the time. CCTV footage reportedly showed no evidence of an assault, with police believing he fell from the vehicle rather than being pushed, suffering catastrophic head injuries.

He was initially taken to Patong Hospital before being transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital for specialist treatment, where he later died.

Thai police have traced the registered owner of the tuk-tuk involved and are continuing their investigation. The driver at the time of the incident could face charges including reckless driving causing death, failing to stop and assist an injured person, and failing to report the incident to authorities.

The UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office confirmed it is assisting the family of a British man who died in Thailand.

Boxing Scotland paid tribute to Cairney, describing itself as "deeply saddened" by the death of the former Scotland international, who had represented his country at several major youth tournaments, including the European and World Youth Championships.

His club, 1314 Boxing Club, said Cairney was "more than a member of the club — he was family," adding: "There are no words that can explain this loss."

A fundraising campaign launched while Cairney remained in a coma to help cover medical expenses and other costs has raised more than £33,000.

Singha Mawynn Gym has issued an official statement defending its fighter, Decho, amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the ban preventing him from competing.

The gym argued that the decision lacked transparency and fairness, saying no clear explanation had been provided despite the severe impact on the fighter's livelihood and future. It noted that Decho has been under the camp's care since 2019, compiling 37 victories, winning multiple major titles, and becoming a regular competitor at ONE Lumpinee.

Singha Mawynn also questioned the role of Prasert Borirak, stating that he had not been involved in Decho's training or career development over the past seven years, despite currently serving as Secretary-General of the Songkhla Provincial Sports Association, a position tasked with supporting and protecting athletes' interests.

The camp stressed that Decho, a Songkhla native, has brought recognition to his home province through his achievements, and warned that the ban could damage his reputation, income, and professional opportunities. Singha Mawynn called on all relevant parties to conduct a fair and impartial review of the case, adding that it is prepared to provide contracts, competition records, and other evidence to support the investigation.

The Royal Household Bureau announced on June 12 that Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati, Krom Luang Rajasarinisiribajra Mahavajrarajadhida, passed away peacefully at Chulalongkorn Hospital on June 11 at the age of 47.

The Princess had been receiving treatment at Chulalongkorn Hospital under the Thai Red Cross Society since December 15, 2022, after losing consciousness due to a heart-related condition.

According to the announcement, her condition worsened on May 21 following an abdominal infection caused by inflammation of the large intestine. She subsequently suffered from low blood pressure, cardiac arrhythmia, and blood clotting abnormalities. Despite intensive medical care, her condition continued to deteriorate.

Her Royal Highness passed away at 7:48 p.m. on June 11.

His Majesty the King has ordered the Royal Household Bureau to arrange the royal funeral rites with the highest honors in accordance with royal tradition. Her remains will be laid in state at Phiman Rattaya Hall within the Grand Palace.

The Office of the Boxing Sports Board of the Sports Authority of Thailand has invited members of the Muaythai community to participate in a public consultation on a new draft Child Protection Act being prepared by Thailand's Ministry of Social Development and Human Security.

The ministry is currently seeking feedback on the draft legislation, which has been submitted for review by the Council of State. One provision has drawn particular attention from stakeholders in the Muaythai industry. Under Chapter 13, Section 100(12) of the draft law, it would be prohibited to "arrange boxing matches involving children under 15 years of age, and to organize boxing matches involving children over 15 years of age without specific conditions, rules, and safety equipment designed for minors."

In practical terms, the proposal would impose a complete ban on boxing competitions involving children under the age of 15. For participants aged 15 to 18, competitions would only be permitted under specially designated rules and safety requirements.
The Office of the Boxing Sports Board is therefore encouraging individuals involved in Muaythai and related sectors to review the proposed legislation and submit their opinions through the official public consultation process to help ensure the law is appropriate and comprehensive.

Public comments can be submitted via the government's consultation portal.

For athletes aged 15 to 18, participation would be prohibited unless they comply with official rules and use appropriate safety equipment.

The proposed revision comes as the existing child protection framework has been in place for a long time and is seen as needing updates to better address modern developmental and social challenges. It also aims to strengthen cooperation between government agencies, local administrations, and civil society, with families, schools, and communities at the center of child welfare efforts.

The draft aligns with constitutional provisions encouraging local authorities to play a greater role in public services and child protection, with the goal of ensuring children develop physically, mentally, and socially in a safe and appropriate environment.
