A little fight-team appreciation from last weekend.

Jeff had an excellent first fight. He came into round three stronger, made adjustments, and kept building as the fight went on. That mindset - staying present, listening to your corner, and continuing to work - is exactly what we want to see.

Austin had an absolute grind of a fight and came away with the win. Nothing was handed to him - he stayed composed, kept working, and earned it.

Jorge faced an incredibly tough opponent. The fight did not go his way, but he showed so much heart. No matter how hard it got, he stayed in it and never backed down. A loss does not erase the courage, preparation, and grit it takes to step in there - and we are incredibly proud of him.

Three different fights. Three athletes showing us what fighting is really about: preparation, resilience, heart, and the willingness to keep going when things get hard.

So proud of all three of you.

Huge congratulations to Kenny on receiving his blue belt earlier this month!

This was one of those belts that couldn’t wait.

Kenny is one of those people who shows up - sometimes very elusively, because apparently we like to keep a little mystery in the schedule - but when he’s on the mats, he’s putting in real work.

He focuses on the basics, pays attention to the details, trains thoughtfully, and keeps getting better in that steady, unflashy way that actually matters a lot in jiu-jitsu.

He’s also just a really solid teammate. The kind of person we’re genuinely happy to have in the room, to train with, to learn beside, and to watch grow.

Blue belt is a big milestone, and this one is very well earned.

We’re so proud of you, Kenny. Congrats!

We wanted to take a quick second to share what is happening at Combat Arts Academy and Delridge Strength, because we know many people are looking for ways to get themselves or their kids moving, stronger, more confident, and more connected this summer and fall.

Between CAA and DS, we offer:

• Brazilian Jiu-jitsu
• Muay Thai
• Strength & conditioning
• Youth Strength training (ages 11+)
• Yoga / mobility
• Beginner cohorts for kids and adults
• Youth Classes
• Private lessons
• Family private lessons
• Birthday parties (kids and adults)
• Events (workshops, group hangs, corporate)
• Postpartum fitness classes (bring your babies/toddlers!)
• Self-defense workshops
• And a lot of “I want to start, but I’m nervous / out of shape / busy / overwhelmed / not sure where I fit” conversations.

That last part is honestly one of the things we do best.

We really, truly meet people where they are, and we care a lot about helping people start well.

Not in a vague marketing way - in a real way. We work with brand-new beginners, nervous adults, kids who need extra support, parents with impossible schedules, people returning after injury or pregnancy, athletes who want to perform better, and families who want to train together.

That means we don’t just throw you into a class and hope you figure it out. We talk through your goals, your schedule, your concerns, your body, your experience level, and what would actually set you up for long-term success.

At Combat Arts Academy, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and Muay Thai are excellent for confidence, self-defense, coordination, discipline, and learning how to stay calm and capable under pressure.

At Delridge Strength, we focus on thoughtful strength and conditioning - building real strength, better movement, and a more capable body without the ego or intimidation that can come with a lot of gym spaces.

We also love working with families. If your schedule is chaotic, group classes aren’t the right fit yet, or you want something you can do with your child, partner, or family unit, family private lessons are an option for all ages.

If you’ve been thinking about starting something - for yourself, your child, your family, or someone you love - book a 30-minute conversation with me. We’ll talk through what you’re looking for and figure out the best next step together.

No pressure. No weird sales pitch. Just a real conversation about what would actually help.

Yesterday’s Summer Social at Lincoln Park was so much fun we kind of forgot to take photos and videos… except for this one! PJ had too much fun rolling with Kevin 🤣

Thanks to everyone who made it out!

Week 1 of Summer Camp at CAA has been a blast.

We’ve had park time, art, Muay Thai, jiu-jitsu, games, and plenty of free play - or as we’ve been calling it, structured unstructured time.

Because honestly, kids have a lot of structure already.

Our goal with camp is not just to keep kids busy. We want them moving, creating, problem-solving, collaborating, and learning how to be in community with each other.

That means independence and respect.

It also means learning how to get along, work together, use your voice, take turns, make choices, and repair when things get messy.

Also: they are very cute and very sweaty by the end of the day.

(We still have spots open for July!)

After a hard training session, these kids opened for a human pyramid. Let’s go Ryan Foley for inspiring the youth.
