🤯 6 years of SSP magic? Can you even believe it?🤯
We, the SSP team, are so wildly proud of what we’ve built and even more proud that every single day we aim to get better: to create better experiences for our members, to welcome new folks into the fold, to learn something new that makes us better coaches, or to reach new parts of Seattle bringing them the experience of SSP you know and love.
TO ANYONE near or far that’s been a part of this journey - thank you from the bottom of our hearts. 💛
We’re just getting started 😉
See you in year 7!

July Member Appreciation: Liz K💛
Liz’s SSP journey began back in 2010 at the old SLU location after a major shoulder surgery, when she was looking for a smart, supportive way to rebuild her strength. When Queen Anne opened in 2020, Liz brought her SSP journey with her. Since then, she’s continued to inspire us with her commitment to staying strong, healthy, and doing the things she loves.
Liz perfectly represents Core Value #3: Moving Better = Feeling Better. She is proof that strength training isn’t just about lifting heavier. It’s about staying healthy, doing the activities you love, and continuing to challenge yourself through every season of life.
Here’s what Liz had to say about her SSP journey:
“I’ve been a member of SSP since the very beginning (August 2010) when it was just one gym in South Lake Union. I first walked through the doors after a major shoulder surgery, looking for a smart, supportive way to rebuild strength and get back to all my activities. What I found was so much more than a recovery plan; I found a coaching staff and community that both made me stronger and happier.
One of my proudest moments came on my 36th birthday, when I strapped on a 36-pound kettlebell and knocked out a pull-up. That kind of milestone doesn’t happen by accident; it was the result of consistent, intelligent coaching.
Most recently, I was able to play an entire ultimate frisbee season injury-free, culminating in a gold medal at Nationals in the Grand Masters Women’s division. At an age where staying healthy on the field gets harder, SSP has been the reason I could compete at my best without setbacks and I am stronger than I have ever been. And I love it so much I got my family to join too.”
Liz, thank you for being such an important part of the SSP story over the years. Watching you continue to hit new milestones, compete at such a high level, and inspire those around you has been amazing. Here’s to many more years of getting stronger together!

SSP started with a simple mission: bring accessible and inclusive strength training to the Queen Anne neighborhood where we opened our first gym. Pretty quickly .travisss and the team realized that what we were building was something very special, and we wanted as many people as possible in Seattle to experience it!
Since then we’ve opened SSP’s in:
💚 Phinney Ridge
❤️ West Seattle
🧡 Ballard
🩵 Mercer Island
And coming soon…. 💛
Just kidding, you’re gonna have to wait a little bit for that one😉 just know we’re BEYOND excited to break into a bit of a new area of Seattle for us!

EVERYONE GIVE A BIG SSP WELCOME TO COACH MADDY!!
Maddy grew up in New England, playing soccer, basketball, track, and cross country. After high school, she traded team practices for the weight room and quickly discovered that strength training was the perfect way to keep challenging herself.
In 2021, she decided to change her life by packing up and moving to Seattle without ever visiting the city - or knowing a single person. Luckily, she fell in love with everything the Pacific Northwest has to offer, from mountain views and hiking trails to Seattle’s unique neighborhoods.
Maddy is a NASM Certified Personal Trainer with a CFSC certification. Before becoming a full-time coach, she spent several years balancing a corporate career while coaching part-time at local gyms. Eventually, she decided to follow what she loved most: helping people get stronger, build confidence, and enjoy the process along the way.
When she’s not coaching or in the gym, you’ll probably find her hiking, cooking something new, skiing in the winter, taking long walks with her German Shepherd, or spending time with friends and family.
1. What is your favorite of SSP’s core values and why?
“My favorite SSP core value is strength training is for everyone. Fitness can feel intimidating, and I love that SSP is a place where everyone - from first-timers to experienced lifters - feels welcomed, supported, and encouraged to become the strongest version of themselves.”
2. What’s your favorite exercise and why?
“My favorite exercise is the barbell deadlift, with an overhead press as a close second! Both movements make me feel incredibly strong, and there’s nothing better than seeing your hard work pay off by translating those movements to real life.”
3. A fun fact about you
“I have been skiing since I was five years old - it’s one of my favorite sports!”
We’re so thankful that Maddy took the leap to make coaching a full time career with us at SSP! Catch her in the evenings at Queen Anne!
