If you're a runner and the deadlift isn't part of your routine, here's why it should be.

Running builds endurance, but it doesn't build raw strength — and that gap is where a lot of overuse injuries come from. The deadlift trains your legs, hips, and posterior chain in a way that running alone never will, giving you more force output per stride and a lot more resilience against the repetitive strain that comes with logging miles week after week.

This isn't about turning runners into powerlifters. It's about building a strength reserve so your body can handle the volume you're asking it to run — and stay healthy doing it.

If you're training for a race, don't skip leg day. Your PR might be waiting in the weight room.

👉 Save this and share it with a runner who needs to hear it.

It's easy to assume deadlifts are just for younger lifters chasing personal records in a loud gym somewhere, but the truth is, done with the right technique, they're one of the most valuable things you can do for your strength, balance, bone health, and independence as you get older. This is a comedic video put together by us here at Starting Strength to show you not everything on the internet is done as effectively or safely as possible. So next time you deadlift do it like the end of the video shows, not the beginning.

There's a myth that once you hit a certain age, the weight room stops being for you. Tell that to Stephen.

What you're seeing isn't recklessness — it's the opposite. It's decades of training experience, programming that respects the body, and loads that are challenging but manageable.

This is what real longevity training looks like. Not avoiding the barbell as you age — staying in the game with it, year after year.

If you know someone who thinks they're "too old" to lift heavy, send them this. They might change their mind.

Meet Janet. 👋

A while back, she got the news a lot of women dread hearing — osteopenia, the early stage of bone density loss. Instead of letting that diagnosis sit in the background, she walked into the gym and started fighting back, one lift at a time.

This video is her journey — and it's proof that it's never too late to build strength, protect your bones, and take control of your health.
