This Is Why You Feel Less Athletic

I hear some version of this all the time from guys my age..

"I just don't move like I used to." (trust me I get it)

They feel slower. Their hips are tighter. Their balance isn't great. Running feels awkward. Jumping feels foreign. Playing basketball for an hour leaves them wrecked for three days.

The easy answer is to blame age.

But there's another question worth asking:

When was the last time you actually TRAINED those things?

Quick reminder: Old Man Athletic starts Monday, and we're officially 2 days away from kicking off the 10-week program.

Here's the simple truth behind a lot of what happens to us physically as we get older:

Your body gets good at what you repeatedly ask it to do.

If you sit 8-10 hours every day, you get really good at sitting.

If you haven't sprinted in 10 years, don't be shocked when running fast feels terrible.

If you haven't jumped since high school basketball, jumping isn't going to feel natural.

If you never move laterally, rotate, balance or work through different ranges of motion, those abilities aren't magically going to stick around forever.

That's why my own training has changed.

At 43, I still lift hard, but that's not ALL I do.

I jump. I carry. I move laterally. I train mobility. I challenge my balance. I push my conditioning. I play sports (basketball, BJJ)

I'm basically trying to send my body one very clear message:

We're still doing this sh*t.

You don't need to become a professional athlete.

You don't need to sprint a 4.5 forty.

You don't need a 40-inch vertical.

You simply need to keep exposing your body to the physical qualities you don't want to lose.

That's the entire philosophy behind Old Man Athletic.

Over 10 weeks, we're training strength, power, mobility, balance, coordination, grip, conditioning and athletic movement together.

Not because we're trying to turn back the clock.

We're training so our bodies remain capable as that clock keeps moving forward.

We start Monday you got 2 days left to enroll.

One of the biggest mistakes I see guys make after 35 or 40 is thinking they have two choices: keep training exactly like they did at 25 or start training like an old man.

Neither one is the answer.

Quick reminder before we get into it: Old Man Athletic starts Monday, August 31st, and you have 3 days left to get enrolled before we kick this thing off.

Now back to the point…

At 25, I could train hard, sleep like sh*t, skip mobility, beat up my joints, recover poorly and somehow come back the next day ready to do it again.

At 43, I still want to train HARD, but I also want to train SMART because my goals have changed.

I'm not trying to win one workout anymore.

I'm trying to win the next 20-30 years.

I want to be strong, but I also want healthy hips and shoulders. I want muscle, but I also want an engine. I want to lift heavy, but I also want to sprint, jump, move laterally, balance, play sports and keep up with my kid.

That's where I think a lot of people get training after 40 wrong.

They either keep beating the hell out of themselves like they're 25, or they go too far in the other direction and stop doing anything athletic because they're afraid of getting hurt.

There is a better middle ground.

Keep lifting heavy & Keep challenging yourself.

But also train mobility, power, balance, coordination and conditioning.

Recover better. Warm up with a purpose. Train through ranges of motion you want to keep.

Most importantly, train for what you want your body to be capable of doing 10 or 20 years from now.

That's exactly how I train at 43, and it's exactly how I built Old Man Athletic.

It's a complete 10-week plan for men and women 35+ who want to get stronger, move better, improve their conditioning and become more athletic without trying to train like they're 22 again.

We start Monday....You have 3 days left to join us.

Quick reminder before we get into today's email…

Old Man Athletic kicks off Monday, August 31st.

Just 4 days to get in.. CLICK below to join.

10 weeks built for men and women 35+ who want to get stronger, move better, improve conditioning and actually FEEL athletic again.

Now, a quick test for my guys and gals out there...

Can you still do these 5 things?

1. Hang from a bar for 30-60 seconds

Grip Shoulders Upper-body strength

Simple, but important....

2. Get off the floor without using your hands....

This is real-world mobility and strength.

If getting down is easy but getting back up looks like a 12-step process, we have work to do.

3. Balance on one leg for 30 seconds

No holding onto anything.

Balance and body control matter more as we get older, not less.

4. Jump

It doesn't need to be high...more than a credit card slide (but not Michael Jordan level)

But can you still produce force quickly, land under control and feel confident doing it?

5. Go hard for 60 seconds

Bike Row Ski Run Sled ... (hit 30+ cals or a dude 15+ for a lady)

Can you push hard and recover? And repeat that?

That's your engine.....You don't need to be elite at any of these.

But I don't want you losing the ability to do them.

As we age we all want ....

Strength Power Mobility Balance Conditioning

That's fitness for real life.

And that's exactly what we're training for the next 10 weeks inside Old Man Athletic.

We start Monday, August 31st.

You Used To Be Athletic… What Happened?

I hear people my age say this all the time…

"I used to be athletic."

I used to be fast. I used to have a vertical. I used to play basketball.

I used to be able to sprint without worrying about pulling something.

I used to move without everything feeling tight.

My question is…

When did we decide that had to stop?

Most people blame age.

And yes, getting older changes things.

We naturally lose muscle, power, mobility and cardiovascular capacity as we age.

But here's the part people miss:

A lot of what we lose is also because we STOP TRAINING IT.

Think about your average 40-year-old's workout.

Bench press..Curls...maybe hit legs at 60% effort...

Maybe some jogging or walking.

Again, nothing wrong with any of that.

But when was the last time you really....

Jumped? Moved laterally? Changed direction?

Balanced on one leg? Rotated explosively?

Got down on the ground and back up?

Your body adapts to what you repeatedly ask it to do.

And it also gets worse at the things you stop asking it to do.

That's why one of my biggest rules for training after 40 is:

USE IT OR LOSE IT.

You don't need to train like a 20-year-old athlete.

You shouldn't.....

But you should keep some version of athletic movement in your life.

Here are 5 places I would start:

1. Keep lifting heavy things.

Muscle and strength become increasingly valuable as we age.

Don't give them away.

2. Train power.

Jumping, throwing, pushing, pulling and moving loads with speed can all be scaled to your ability.

Power is one of those qualities we want to fight to maintain.

3. Move in different directions.

Life doesn't happen exclusively forward and backward.

Train lateral movement, rotation and different positions.

4. Work on mobility consistently.

Not an hour of stretching once every three weeks.

A little bit, done consistently.

Hips Ankles Shoulders T-spine..Keep those joints moving.

5. Keep your engine.

Walk Run Bike Row Ski Sled

Whatever you enjoy...Just don't let your conditioning disappear.

Do those things consistently and you'll be a hell of a lot more capable than someone who only trains for what they see in the mirror.

And that's really the point.

I don't want to just LOOK athletic at 43.

I want to actually BE athletic.

I want the same for you at 40, 50, 60 and beyond.

That's the entire philosophy behind the new Old Man Athletic program.

I put strength, power, mobility, balance, coordination, conditioning and athletic movement into one progressive 10-week plan.

If you want me to lay all of this out for you and coach you through it…

And it's officially here......OLD MAN ATHLETIC Click HERE - https://my.playbookapp.io/jeremy-scott/offers/old-man-athletic/9537

My new 10-week training program built specifically for men and women 35+ who want to stay strong, mobile, conditioned and ATHLETIC as they get older.

This is the third evolution of my Old Man Series.

Old Man Strength was about getting strong.

Old Man Shredded was about getting lean.

Old Man Athletic is about becoming more capable.

Because at 43, I don't just want to look fit.

I want to be able to....

Run, Jump, Sprint, Move laterally, Carry heavy sh*t, Have great balance, Get off the floor easily, Play sports, Keep up with my kid....

And still be able to do all of those things at 50, 60 and beyond.

That's WHY I created this program.

WHO IS IT FOR?
Men and women 35+ who already understand the basics of training but feel like they've lost a step.

Maybe you're still strong, but you're stiff (Most Dudes I meet)

Maybe you lift, but your conditioning sucks (Also most Dudes)

Maybe you look fit, but you don't FEEL athletic anymore.

Maybe your knees, hips and shoulders don't move like they used to.

Or maybe you simply want to train now in a way that keeps you capable for the next 20-30 years.

That's who I built this for...

WHAT ARE WE TRAINING?
Over the 10 weeks we're going after the physical qualities that tend to disappear when we stop using them:

Strength Power Mobility Balance Grip Conditioning and Overall Athletic movement...

You're not just lifting weights.

You're training your body to actually MOVE.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
I laid out the entire 10 weeks for you.

You open the app. You see exactly what you're doing that day.

You watch the exercise demos. You follow the progression.

You do the work. And we coach you through the process.

No guessing.

No trying to piece together random workouts from Instagram.

No wondering what you should be doing at 40+.

Just follow the plan.

THE GOAL? Simple....
Become the guy or girl who can still do hard things.

I don't believe getting older means we have to accept becoming weak, slow, stiff and fragile.

But we DO have to train differently than we did at 22 (yes even me)

We have to be smarter, more intentional and start training the physical qualities we actually want to keep.

That's exactly what Old Man Athletic is designed to do.

If you want to spend the next 10 weeks getting stronger, moving better, improving your conditioning and becoming more athletic…
