When it’s a chaotic summer season, kids are home from school, friends are over, and your door closes automatically 🙌🏻
One less thing to think about when little feet are running in and out all day. Because when it comes to pool safety, every layer of protection matters. 💙

This fence never clocks out. 🔒
A preschool classmate drowning changed everything.
Alissa from the NDPA shares how that moment shifted how she saw water safety and how she approached parenting around it. What once felt routine quickly became a lifelong focus on prevention, awareness, and not assuming “it won’t happen here.”
Drowning doesn’t follow age, location, or expectations. It happens fast, and often without warning.
That’s why water safety has to be layered, consistent, and built into everyday habits. Supervision, barriers, and awareness all matter when working together.
Pool rule #1: never swim alone! 💦
Even the best swimmers need a grown-up keeping an eye on the water. Before you jump in, find your water watcher and make sure they’re ready to watch.
Because pool time is more fun when everyone stays safe! 💙
👀 Tag your water watcher and make sure they know their job!
Kinda chic to take water safety seriously.
Kinda chic to have multiple layers of protection.
Kinda chic to protect kids as much as we can from the risks of drowning.
Kinda chic to be a dedicated, focused “water watcher”.
Drowning prevention is often treated as reactive, but it shouldn’t be.
Jason points out a hard truth: too often action only comes after repeated tragedy, instead of before it. Like dangerous intersections that only get stop signs after enough crashes, water safety can fall into the same pattern.
But there’s another path forward. Prevention can be built into everyday systems, especially when homes change hands, updates are made, and safety becomes the standard instead of the exception.
Because waiting for something to happen is not a strategy - proactive protection is.

When leaders in water safety come together, important conversations happen. 📢
It was an honor to have Alissa from the National Drowning Prevention Alliance (NDPA), and Michael & Nicole Phelps of the Michael Phelps Foundation together to continue the conversation around protecting children in and around the water.
If you haven’t already, be sure to watch the Ages & Stages of Water Safety podcast. It shares practical, age-appropriate guidance for families while reinforcing one simple truth: drowning prevention takes all of us.
We’re grateful for the passion, advocacy, and life-saving work each of these organizations and individuals contributes to the water safety community. Together, we’re helping educate families, raise awareness, and prevent tragedies before they happen.

Hosting a pool party to soak in the last of the warm days? 🎉 Run through these safety layers first.
A pool fence is your first line of defense - keeping kids out of the pool until it’s officially swim time prevents unsupervised access, which is when most drownings happen.
Once the party starts:
🔒 Check barriers & alarms — gates latched, fencing secure
👀 Name a Water Watcher — phone down, eyes on the water
🚨 Be emergency ready — know CPR, keep a phone poolside
No single layer is enough alone. Together, they keep pool day what it should be… fun.
Save this for your next pool party 💙
