🎃🐴 Something FUN is coming to Honest Equine this Halloween… 🐴🎃

We’ve been dreaming up a night that’s all about kids, families, animals, games, costumes, candy and fun!

Think carnival games + pony rides + petting zoo + costume contest + a ridiculous amount of candy 👻🍬

We’re calling it…

HONEST HALLOWEEN
A Safe Place to Be a Kid. 🧡

📅 Friday, October 30th
⏰ 5:30PM - 8:30PM
📍 Honest Equine — Scio, Oregon

We’re still building all the details, but I couldn’t keep it a secret anymore. 😂

Save the date - this is going to be FUN. 🎃✨

More details coming very soon! There are also options for local businesses to join in on the fun!

At Honest Equine, we believe in a well-rounded horseman.

Sometimes that means horsemanship. Sometimes that means backing a beat-up golf cart down a hill with a rope for brakes.

I prioritize life lessons around here - the kids get a well rounded education 😂

Some see a foal drinking out of a hose - I see a learning opportunity.

Horses are herd animals, prey animals and incredibly instinctive. A foal is experiencing the world for the first time and constantly learning from those experiences; what is fear and what is fun.

My goal when raising babies is to create an environment they can learn in where we don’t unnecessarily create fear. We discover new things, build confidence and whenever possible we have fun doing it.

Those positive experiences help create a horse who learns to think through something unfamiliar instead of immediately reacting out of fear.

Have you ever noticed how many horses spook at a hose? Sometimes before the water even touches them, you turn it on and they’re already backing away.

It makes sense - if you think like the horse. It moves across the ground almost like a snake. It wiggles around their feet. It suddenly comes alive and it hisses, sprays, splashes, changes pressure and can unexpectedly touch them.

We know it’s just a hose - but a young horse doesn’t. He reacts based on instinct and experience until he learns what that strange new thing means.

THAT is why I love moments like this! Duke thinks he’s playing. He thinks drinking straight out of the hose is quite possibly the greatest invention known to horses. 😂

But without even realizing it, he’s learning. The sound of rushing water isn’t scary. Water spraying his face isn’t scary. A hose moving around his feet isn’t scary. Something unexpectedly touching his legs doesn’t automatically mean PANIC.

This is one of my favorite parts about raising babies. Desensitizing doesn’t always have to be a formal training session. Sometimes the best learning happens while they’re relaxed, playing, exploring and experiencing normal life.

Because today, it’s just Duke being goofy with the hose. Tomorrow, it means he can quietly stand for a bath. A wound can be flushed. His legs can be cold-hosed. Fly spray can be used on him. Something can fall or move underneath him. A vet can work on him. A farrier can handle him. All of these big milestones - from just a little lesson.

A weanling who learns to calmly work through all these little things becomes a safer, more confident 1,200-pound horse. And when life inevitably throws something at him that I didn’t prepare him for, hopefully his first response is to think instead of panic.

My goal isn’t to raise a horse who never gets scared. It’s to raise a horse who has learned what to do when he IS scared.

Stop. Think. Look to his person. Learn that something unfamiliar doesn’t automatically mean something dangerous. That kind of confidence isn’t built in one big training session. It’s built through a thousand tiny experiences just like this one.

Duke just happens to think his education tastes like hose water 💦 🐴

🌧️ SHOW CANCELLED 🌧️

Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans for us this week! We received too much rain, and the arena has not had enough time to dry out.

Our number one priority at Honest Equine is providing a safe arena for our competitors and their horses, so we’ve made the decision to cancel this show.

Thank you all for understanding! 🤍🐴

📅 Stay tuned for a new date announcement to make up this show!

Come hungry this Saturday! 🤎🐴

We’ll have a food booth at the Gaming Series serving homemade pulled pork sandwiches, muffins, drinks & more!

The best part? All proceeds go right back to supporting the kids at Honest Equine.

A huge thank you to Brittney Mitchell with Manor Realty for sponsoring the booth and helping make this possible!

Good food, great ground and a day with horses — doesn’t get much better than that.

🧁 MEET CUPCAKE! 🧁

Cupcake was a blessing that came completely out of the blue, and we are so excited to welcome her to the Honest Equine family.

She’ll be joining our lesson program, and she is literally as sweet as they come. She LOVES kids, loves attention and absolutely loves being treated like the little princess she knows she is. 👑

If you’ve been around horses long enough, you know most mini ponies named Angel, Sweetheart, or Cupcake are usually anything BUT. 😂 But this little girl? Her name represents her perfectly. God baked this one with a little extra sugar. 🧁🤍

And she’s not just a pretty face! Cupcake is a great little show horse with quite a few talents of her own. We may even get to see her showing some of them off in OHSET this year! 🦄 ✨

I have a feeling she’s going to teach a whole lot of kids, build a whole lot of confidence and be spoiled in the process.

Welcome home, Cupcake. 🧁 Thank you Ali & Hank for trusting me and picking me for cupcake ❤️
