October 16-19: PINECREST CAMPOUT

We have reserved three nights at the Pioneer Trail Group Camp in Pinecrest, CA for Friday-Monday, October 16-19, 2026. The beautiful area of Pinecrest on the Sonora Pass Highway has incredible outdoor activities including numerous climbing crags, mountain biking, hiking and boating on Pinecrest Lake. The Pioneer Trail Group Camp is a nice group camp that can accommodate 50 people. October can provide either perfect fall weather or we may feel the start of winter when we are there. September 1: Richard Long - First Ascent of Hummingbird Ridge on Mount Logan

Hummingbird Ridge on Mount Logan is a 12,000-foot route first climbed in 1965 by Richard Long, Allen Steck, Paul Bacon, Frank Coale, John Evans and James Wilson over 37 days. It has never been fully repeated. Richard Long will re-live this audacious climb with us as he shares photos and stories from this historic climb.

August 4: Daniel Vasquez - Road To The Tower

Daniel Vasquez Daniel Vasquez is a Santa Rosa resident and climber whose journey began in 2014 after a first date with Becka Kelley. Becka was an experienced climber and guide, who nurtured Daniel’s love of climbing.

In this presentation, Daniel shares the experiences and adventures that have shaped his relationship with Devils Tower—also known as Bear Lodge—one of the most iconic, sacred, and awe-inspiring monolithic formations in the world. His story is one of love, loss, honor, healing, and celebration, adventure and connection.

Daniel first visited in 2017 with Becka, who carried a deep connection to the place. He was captivated by the splitter cracks and the imposing presence of the formation, but what stayed with him most was seeing Becka’s joy and sparkle in a landscape she once called home. After Becka passed away in 2018 following a long battle with mental illness, Daniel began returning to the Tower each year as a spiritual journey and personal pilgrimage. The annual trip became a way to honor her life, grieve the loss, climb the cracks she loved, and be held by the place that had held his dear friend so closely.

Each year since, Daniel has made the long road trip to Devils Tower, choosing a slightly different route and visiting notable climbing destinations along the way. Beyond the climbing, scenery, historic landmarks, and occasional memorable beer, the fondest moments have come from sharing these experiences with dear friends and with his partner, Kate, while continuing to honor the memory of his dear friend, former partner, and climbing mentor.

Daniel hopes this presentation will inspire fellow climbers to create their own “Road to the Tower”—to seek out new adventures, new climbing destinations, and meaningful journeys of their own.

For our general monthly meeting we will be showing the movie “THREE WOMEN - THREE HUNDRED MILES”

This film follows river pros Julie Munger, Rebecca Rusch, and Kelley Kalafatich as they became the very first team of three women to navigate 300 miles of the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon on riverboards over 19 days. For many a river rafter, Styrofoam is merely something that keeps beer cold. But for three adventurous women, it was the only thing separating them from a frigid torrent of whitewater for 19 days.

In November 2001, three friends – Julie Munger, 40, Kelley Kalafatich, 40, and Rebecca Rusch, 33 – set out on the icy waters of the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon with nothing but 4-foot foam boards, flippers, dry suits and gumption to guide them down the 300-mile stretch and into river history. The resulting documentary, “Three Women, 300 Miles,” is a sometimes-harrowing, oftentimes-humorous and always awe-inspiring look at the resiliency of the human spirit in accomplishing what many said could never be done.

TOMORROW! The Bay Area Climbers Coalition , the Rock Ice & Mountain Club and Napa Valley State Parks are teaming up on June 6 for an Adopt-A-Crag cleanup event on Mount Saint Helena in Robert Louis Stevenson State Park near Calistoga. The event runs from 9 AM to 1 PM. Calistoga Roastery will provide coffee and CalMart will provide lunch. After the cleanup, we plan on climbing and socializing.
