Why does this brief but intense cardio matter so much for us women 50+? ❤️

Because our VO2 max — our body’s ability to use oxygen — starts declining as we age, and that decline predicts how independent and strong we stay later in life.💪

It is genuinely scary how fast the body can decline if we let it coast. Dr. Stacy Sims Dr. Stacy T. Sims and Dr. Vonda Wright Dr Vonda Wright | Surgeon have both been vocal about this — sprint intervals and high-intensity work aren’t optional extras for women our age, they’re one of the most protective things we can do against frailty. 👏

If you’re just starting out: you don’t need a treadmill sprint. Find a hill outside, or use a treadmill with adjustable incline, and just build gradually — increase your walking speed a little, add a bit of incline, and always warm up first. If you don’t have access to a steep hill, let me know in a comment and I’ll help you find something else to do. Meet your body where it is today.👍

Here’s what I do 1-2 times a week: -Sprint intervals on a 15% - 20% incline. 6.5 mph.
-30 seconds on, then rest until my heart rate comes back down — sometimes a minute, sometimes two. -I do this 5-6 times, always after a real warm-up (today: 30 minutes of brisk walking before I even got on the treadmill).

Here’s the thing — I’ve always loved high incline walking for my HIIT work. But lately, when I push the speed up, my body just naturally wants to sprint. So I’m leaning into it.

😳We can’t afford to get comfortable with where we are. We have to keep training — for the life we want to live at 70, 80, 90 and beyond.

Keep it simple. Keep it healthy.🥰

Still just walking. Just... a lot more effective.

Here's what changes when you add the poles and the technique:
🔥 Burn up to 46% more calories — without pushing harder
💪 Full-body strength — arms, core, back all engaged
🦴 Easier on your joints — less pressure on ankles, knees, hips
👭 Real connection — walking alongside women who get it

This is the whole idea behind Nordic Body® Walk: take something you already do every day, and teach your body to do it better.

Squats: One of the Best Things You Can Do for Your Body After 50 💪

Watch Betty working the TRX and Delphine using a wall ball with added weights — two totally different squat variations, same powerful benefits.

Why squats matter so much for women 50+:
Leg strength isn’t just about looking toned — it’s functional strength that keeps you independent. Studies show stronger legs are linked to up to a 45% lower risk of cognitive decline. Your legs and your brain are more connected than you think.

You can do this at home — no gym required:
Grab a sturdy chair and put it right behind you as a landmark. If sitting all the way down feels intimidating, the chair is your safety net.

Line everything up: all 10 toes facing forward, kneecaps tracking straight ahead. Lower down slowly and with control — use your glutes as the brake, not gravity. Then push through your heels and bring some energy into standing back up.

Make it your own:
∙ Knees not loving full range? Only go as low as feels pain-free — then hold that spot as an isometric squat for 30–60 seconds, until your quads start to burn. Same strength benefits, zero pain.
∙ Common mistake: leaning too far forward. Check yourself in a mirror — if your chest stays up and you can see your reflection, you’re not overcompensating.

Ready to level up?
∙ Add weights in your hands
∙ Add a stability ball against the wall for support and range of motion
∙ Try TRX or hold onto something sturdy to safely deepen the movement

Strong legs = a strong foundation for everything else. 🦵✨

If you've ever wondered why I've been obsessed with walking poles since 2002 — this is why. Nordic Body® Walk turns your daily walk into a full-body workout: up to 46% more calories burned, your arms and core doing real work, and way less stress on your knees and hips.
