Missing under the ball over and over? Sometimes the adjustment can be pretty simple.
One of the most common things Joey sees with young hitters is consistently making contact with the bottom half of the baseball or missing underneath it entirely.
A quick cue we’ll use is to simply try to hit the top half of the ball.
The goal isn’t necessarily to actually hit the top of every baseball. It’s about giving the hitter an external focus that can help adjust the barrel path and create better contact without overcomplicating the swing.
Sometimes a simple adjustment is all it takes.

Summer Development Program results are in.
Across both our High School and Middle School groups, athletes made meaningful gains throughout the summer in both hitting and pitching.
On the mound, we saw improvements in max velocity, average velocity, and pulldown velocity.
At the plate, athletes improved across machine exit velocity, front toss exit velocity, and bat speed.
The goal of the program is not just to train hard, but to create measurable progress that carries over to the field.
Swipe through to see the average gains from our Summer Development Program.

Every year Joey coaches travel ball, he sees the same thing.
Young players give away outs, bases, and opportunities because of small mistakes that are completely controllable.
A lot of it simply comes down to understanding situations and knowing what you’re supposed to do before the play happens.
We put together a few videos covering some of the fundamentals we consistently see young players struggle with:
• Taking a lead at first base
• Taking a lead at second base
• Taking a lead at third base
• How to properly hold runners at second
These aren’t complicated parts of the game, but learning them early can prevent a lot of avoidable mistakes and help players become smarter, more complete ballplayers.
We broke each one down in more detail on our YouTube channel.

Fall testing is in the books.
We kicked off our Fall Development Program with force plate testing to establish a baseline for where each athlete is starting the season.
Using our VALD Force Plates, we’re able to measure different qualities of athletic performance and get objective data on how our athletes produce and apply force.
These leaderboards highlight some of the top performances from our athletes across each of our testing categories to start the fall.
The numbers are great, but this is just the starting point.
Over the course of the program, we’ll continue training, testing, and tracking each athlete’s development so we can see exactly where progress is being made.
Now the goal is to see what these leaderboards look like at the end of the fall.

Hitters need more than just perfect reps.
Traditional BP and front toss have their place, but the game doesn’t give you the same pitch in the same location every time. Hitters have to be able to move, adjust, and find the barrel in different positions.
In this video, Joey goes through three drills we use to challenge hitters more athletically:
• Offset front toss
• Offset machine work
• Darts thrown to different locations
Changing the angle and location forces hitters to solve different problems with every swing. They have to adjust their body, control the barrel, and find a way to make quality contact without relying on the exact same movement pattern every rep.
We want to build hitters who can adapt to what the game gives them, not just hitters who look good in batting practice.
