Listening is a skill! And just like every other skill we practice in martial arts, it gets stronger with repetition.

When students learn to stop, watch, listen, and give someone their full attention, they’re doing more than learning the technique in front of them. They’re developing focus, patience, self-control, and respect.

Imagine your child being able to sit still and pay attention in the classroom, look at you when you’re helping them at home, and understand how good listening can help them everywhere else life takes them.

At Level Up, we’re not just practicing punches and kicks. We’re practicing how to learn. 🥋

Kids have a LOT of energy and martial arts gives them a safe, positive place to use it.

They get to run, kick, punch, yell, move, and challenge themselves in a controlled environment while learning that having energy and power also comes with responsibility.

That’s why we talk so much about self-control. Not just controlling our techniques on the mat, but learning when it’s appropriate to use all that energy and when it’s time to settle down, listen, and make good choices at home, at school, and everywhere else.

Sometimes kids don’t need less energy. They just need a great place to put it. 👊😄

We have a saying here at Level Up and that's 'It's always your turn'.

Whether you're doing the move, the one punching in, or waiting for your turn, there's always something to be paying attention to. Safety, technique takeaways, or learning to pay attention!

So, while only two students get the chance to demonstrate, the whole class is involved! Watching closely, thinking through what they’re seeing, and learning from each other.

Martial arts isn’t just about getting your own reps in. It’s also about learning how to pay attention, support your teammates, and take something valuable from every moment on the mat. 🥋

It's really important to acknowledge when we see the people we care about being genuine in what they say and do. Sincerity shows up when we give our best effort, offer a real apology, help someone because we care, or do the right thing without looking for praise.

At home, look for those moments when your child’s actions come from a genuine place and point them out. Helping kids recognize sincerity in themselves is a great way to help it become part of who they are.

Respect is one of those lessons that reaches far beyond the martial arts studio.

We practice it when we listen to our instructors, take care of our training partners, stay in control when we’re frustrated, and treat others with kindness even when we disagree.

The goal isn’t just to teach students how to be strong. It’s to teach them how to use that strength with good judgment and respect for themselves and the people around them.

That’s a lesson worth practicing. 🥋

Thank you so much to everyone who showed up today for testing. To those of you who passed your test to your next rank, you worked hard; Not just today, but in all the days leading up to, and you earned it. We're very proud of you. To those of you who showed up to be the testing partners, the work you put in today made all the difference. We can't perform solid techniques without a solid strike to defend against in the first place. It was so awesome to see. Thank you.
