🚧 ROADWORK UPDATE: JARVES STREET 🚧

Road resurfacing is scheduled to begin Tuesday, September 15 on:
📍 Main Street at Jarves Street
📍 Jarves Street (Main Street – Route 6A)

Work by Lawrence Lynch Corp. will include pavement milling, sidewalk improvements, drainage improvements and paving.

🕖 Work hours: 7:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., Monday–Friday

Access to area homes and businesses may be periodically delayed while work is underway. Full access will be restored at the end of each work day. Motorists should follow all roadwork signage and safety officer instructions and use alternate routes when possible.

🚨 IMPORTANT PARKING RESTRICTION
NO ON-STREET PARKING will be permitted beginning at 10:00 p.m. Monday, September 14, through 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 15.
Residents must park vehicles inside driveways and at least 5 feet off the edge of the roadway.

If off-street parking is limited, residents and visitors should plan to park at one of the following locations:
📍 MassDOT Train Station – 42 Jarves Street
📍 Main Street – between Water Street and #150
📍 Main Street – between #158 and Route 6A

⚠️ All unattended vehicles parked along roadways under construction will be towed.

Please plan ahead, allow extra time for travel, and give construction crews and safety personnel plenty of room to work safely.

🎒🚸 Back to School in Sandwich: Let’s Slow Down & Drive Safe!

Sandwich Public Schools are back in session tomorrow (Wednesday, September 1), which means more students, families, pedestrians, cyclists, school buses, and traffic on our roads.

As we head into a new school year, we’re asking everyone to slow down, stay alert, and give yourself a little extra time when traveling through school zones and around town.

A few important reminders:
🚗 Slow down in school zones
🚶 Watch for pedestrians and bicyclists
🚌 Follow school bus laws and never pass a stopped bus with flashing red lights
🅿️ Avoid double parking and unsafe drop-offs
🛑 Follow crossing guards and school patrol directions
👀 Stay alert for children

Want to help spread the message? The Town’s back-to-school “Slow Down in Our Town” Sign Pilot is underway! Residents can come to the Town Manager's Office at the Municipal Office Building at 100 Rt 6A during regular business hours to pick up a free yard sign.

🚗 SLOW DOWN - IN OUR TOWN: YARD SIGN PILOT PROGRAM

As students, families, pedestrians and cyclists return to our roads for the new school year, we’re asking everyone to help us keep Sandwich streets safe. 💙

The Town of Sandwich is launching a residential sign pilot program as part of our Slow Down - In Our Town public safety initiative. A limited number of campaign signs will be available for residents to display on private property for 30 days.

📅 Display period: August 31–September 30, 2026
📍 Pick-up: Town Manager's Office, Sandwich Municipal Office Building, 100 Route 6A
🕣 Pick-up hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
🏡 One sign per residence/property, while supplies last

Signs must be placed on private property with the property owner's permission and may not be altered or placed on Town/public property, utility poles, sidewalks or within the public right-of-way.

At the end of the 30-day period, signs and metal stakes should be returned to the Sandwich Municipal Office Building so they can be reused for future public safety campaigns.

As a reminder, this weekend is the 47th Pan Mass Challenge. Early Sunday morning, 4300+ PMC riders, including some of your Sandwich neighbors, will pedal through town enroute to Provincetown.

They will depart from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy as early as 5:00AM and ride over the Bourne Bridge in a dedicated lane. They then travel east on the canal path to the Sandwich Marina, roll onto Freezer Road, take a left on Tupper and follow it to the Old Town Hall. Then it is up the Water Street / Route 130 hill and a left on the Service Road to the Barnstable town line and beyond.

The majority of riders will pedal through Sandwich between 5:30-7:00AM. Sandwich Police Officers will be detailed at key intersections to ensure both rider and driver safety. If you are out and about early this Sunday, please drive carefully and please share the road.

🚲 🚲 Slow Down—In Our Town. Share the road. Give cyclists space.

With more people biking on Sandwich roads and paths this summer, it's more important than ever for all of us to look out for one another.

Under MA law, drivers must leave at least 4 feet when passing bicyclists. You can legally cross a double-yellow line to pass bicyclists when traffic is clear. If you can’t give 4 feet or see ahead, slow down and wait until it’s safe to pass.

🚗 Drivers:
👀 Stay alert and avoid distractions.
↔️ Leave at least 4 feet when passing a bicyclist.
🚦 Yield to bicyclists as you would any other vehicle.
🚪 Look before opening your door when parked.

🚴 Bicyclists:-0
➡️ Ride in the same direction as traffic.
🚦 Obey traffic signs and signals.
💡 Use lights and reflective gear when riding at night.
📵 Stay focused and stay visible.

Recent crashes on Cape Cod are a sobering reminder that a little extra patience and space can save lives. Slow Down and stay alert-- let's all do our part to keep Sandwich's roads safe this summer.

It's Friday, and we're gearing up for another beautiful summer weekend in Sandwich!

With our beaches, shops, restaurants, historic downtown, parks, and local attractions welcoming residents and visitors alike, our streets and sidewalks will be bustling with people enjoying everything our community has to offer.

Let's put our best foot forward and help make every visit to Sandwich a safe and enjoyable one.

Whether you're behind the wheel or on foot, we all play a role in keeping our roads safe.

Drivers:
👀 Stay alert and watch for pedestrians at all times.
🚸 Slow down and yield at crosswalks.
🌙 Use extra caution at night or during rain, when people may be harder to see.
🚗 Look carefully for pedestrians before backing up or turning.

Pedestrians:
🚶 Use sidewalks whenever available.
🚦 Cross at marked crosswalks and obey traffic signals.
👁️ Make eye contact with drivers before crossing, and don't assume a vehicle will stop.
💡 Stay visible, especially after dark.
