The Bay Area Moreno Institute is a platform for Psychodrama in the San Francisco Bay Area. Moreno.

The Bay Area Moreno Institute is dedicated to promoting the training, practice and development of Psychodrama, its offspring action methods, and related fields & philosophies in the San Francisco Bay Area. Psychodrama is an experiential group psychotherapy method that was developed by Jacob L. It facilitates emotional conflict resolution through transforming them into action, drama and movement.

Registration is open for:
The Practice of Psychodrama: 4-Day In-Person Training Intensive, December 10-13, 2026 - Marin County, CA.

Together we will learn the theory and philosophy underlying psychodrama, sociometry and group psychotherapy. Participants will have the opportunity to practice psychodrama methods that can be integrated into their work and experience the roles of group member, auxiliary ego, protagonist and director.

Training is open to professionals and students in the fields of mental health, law, substance abuse and recovery, creative arts therapies, religion, human services, personnel management, group facilitation and education, as well as those wanting to further their knowledge of psychodrama. All levels of psychodrama experience are welcome.

Course meets the qualifications for 28 continuing education hours for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. CEs available for Licensed Psychologists and Registered Nurses if requested 8 weeks prior.

Each of us has experienced the freedom of an open heart - compassion, empathy, deep wisdom, well-being and peace. Although an open heart is our natural state, we often find ourselves with hearts closed, hurt or contracted in anger. The path back to an open heart may feel difficult, undesirable and even impossible. In a supportive group, we will access our deepest knowing as we discover what truly supports or prevents us from living with an open heart.

I'm pleased to offer Psychodrama for Personal Growth and Professional Development on September 27-28, an in-person workshop taking place in Mill Valley, CA, (plus a 2-hour online meeting September 25). Early bird registration closes September 15.

This workshop is designed with an emphasis on personal growth. All levels of experience with psychodrama are welcome and encouraged to attend. For those new to psychodrama or to my work, this will be the perfect opportunity to experience a psychodrama weekend. If you are experienced with psychodrama, this workshop will provide an opportunity to do your personal work and deepen your knowledge of psychodrama. I'm excited to be offering Psychodrama for Personal and Professional Development on July 19-20, 2025, with a 2-hour Zoom session on July 17. This weekend will focus on personal psychodramas in a supportive group setting. I’ll provide some directorial comments and minimal teaching to prioritize personal work. It’s ideal for experienced students to deepen their practice and for newcomers to discover the method’s power.

Sign-up to be at the top of my waitlist for my in-person workshop, Focus on Directing: Integrating Psychodrama in Individual Therapy, taking place on May 3-4, in Mill Valley, CA. Early bird registration savings end today, Thursday, April, 24th. It’s the last workshop in this series.

Participants will learn psychodramatic action structures to integrate into their work with individual clients and also groups.

The 2-hour warm-up Zoom meeting on Thursday, May 1, 6:30-8:30 pm, will allow more time for in-person practice as well as a chance to practice directing online.

My one-week introductory psychodrama course through the Drama Therapy Program at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas, from Monday May 19 - Friday May 23, 2025, is fast approaching. If you’re interested, now’s the time to book, if you haven’t already.

This graduate level course is open to the public and is a wonderful opportunity to experience psychodrama for an entire week. The organizer, Drama Therapist, Sally Bailey, is happy to help with housing and the cost is reasonable. The students always provide a warm, relaxed Midwestern welcome.

This course will offer an experiential and cognitive overview of psychodrama as developed by J.L. Moreno and Zerka Toeman Moreno. The class will provide students with an introduction to the fundamentals of role theory, sociometry, and the primary techniques of enactment. We will discuss and practice the application of psychodramatic methods in group therapy and other treatment contexts as well as much more.
