Before Lee Trevino became a six-time major champion, he learned the game with one old 7-iron.

Growing up in Dallas, Trevino’s family had very little money. A full set of golf clubs wasn’t an option. His uncle gave him an old 7-iron, and Lee started hitting anything he could find.

Rocks. Bottles. Whatever was around.

Eventually, Trevino began caddying at a local country club. He watched better players closely, picked up whatever he could, and practiced every chance he got.

There was no private instructor. No expensive junior golf program.

Trevino largely built his unique swing through trial and error, repetition, and thousands upon thousands of golf shots.

And somehow, it worked.

The kid who started with a single 7-iron grew into one of the greatest ball strikers golf has ever seen.

Trevino won 29 times on the PGA Tour and captured six major championships, including two U.S. Opens, two Open Championships and two PGA Championships.

From one old 7-iron to six major championships.

Lee Trevino didn’t need the perfect equipment or the perfect start.

He just needed a chance to play.
