Muscle plays a bigger role in how you move, age, recover, and stay independent than most people realize. Building and maintaining muscle is one of the most effective ways to support bone density, metabolism, and long-term health. 👀💪

In our latest blog, we break down:

• What beginners should know about strength training
• Why muscle becomes even more important after weight loss
• What busy parents, older adults, and new moms should prioritize

If you’ve ever wondered, “What should I be doing for my body right now?” this is a good place to start.

There’s no right age, fitness level, or starting point for getting stronger and building muscle mass.

Wherever you’re starting, these 3 tips always matter:

💪 Learn good form before adding more weight.
🔁 Build consistency before chasing intensity.
💙 Find people who make showing up feel easier.

The workout may look different at every stage of life. The fundamentals don’t.

👀 We’re curious: What are you getting stronger for?

Getting back into a workout routine after summer can feel harder than starting one. 👀

We asked AVAC personal trainer Erica for her best advice on rebuilding a fitness routine that actually sticks:

📅 Treat workouts like appointments. Put them on your calendar before the week fills up.

💙 Choose movement you enjoy. If you dread every workout, it’s going to be much harder to stay consistent. Try a class, strength training, swimming, or something you genuinely look forward to.

🔁 Focus on consistency, not perfection. A few workouts you can repeat each week will take you further than an extreme routine you can’t maintain.

The goal isn’t to “make up” for summer. It’s to build a routine that works with your life.

Loosen up before your workout with these three mobility exercises. 👇 Personal trainer demonstrates movements that can help support your strength training:

1️⃣ Hip Airplanes for hip stability, control, and range of motion
2️⃣ Scorpions for mobility through the back and spine
3️⃣ Band Up-and-Overs for shoulder mobility and flexibility

Mobility work can help you move with better form, feel more comfortable during each exercise, and prepare your body for the demands of strength training.

“Will lifting weights make me bulky?”

Time to put that myth (and a few others) down firmly and with good form. 👀

AVAC personal trainer Shannon Larsen has the answers:

🚫 Myth 1: Lifting weights will make you bulky.
For most women, strength training builds lean muscle, supports bone health, and creates a stronger, more defined physique.

🚫 Myth 2: Cardio is always better for fat loss.
Cardio can be valuable, but strength training also supports healthy body composition by helping you build and maintain muscle. Pair the two with supportive nutrition for a more balanced approach.
