FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Alaska Department of Natural Resources Office of Boating Safety and FirstWatch Gear Enter Five-Year Purchasing Agreement to Support Statewide Kids Don’t Float Program
Agreement supports expanded access to properly fitted life jackets for Alaska residents and visitors.

Sunnyvale, California —

The Alaska Department of Natural Resources Office of Boating Safety and FirstWatch Gear have entered into a five-year purchasing agreement to supply personal flotation devices (PFDs) in support of Alaska’s statewide Kids Don’t Float program.

The agreement will help ensure that properly fitted life jackets remain accessible to residents and visitors throughout Alaska, reinforcing a shared commitment to drowning prevention, boating safety education, and expanding access to life-saving equipment in communities across the state.
In partnership with U.S. Water Safety, an Alaska-based water safety education and consulting firm led by Kelli Toth, FirstWatch Gear has launched a nationwide effort to expand access to FirstWatch personal flotation devices through public safety and public health life jacket loaner board programs.
“This is a meaningful personal milestone and an honor to collaborate with FirstWatch Gear on such a significant statewide life jacket loaner board initiative,” said Kelli Toth, founder of U.S. Water Safety. “Creating a lasting public health impact requires a coordinated approach that combines education, engineering, and enforcement. Together, FirstWatch Gear and U.S. Water Safety are committed to increasing personal flotation device wear rates, reducing drownings, and expanding access to life-saving equipment through education, outreach, and community partnerships across Alaska.”
FirstWatch Gear products are trusted by public safety and public health agencies across North America. The company’s mission remains focused on delivering innovative safety solutions engineered specifically for professionals who operate on and around the water.
