🥋 Hapkido Black Belt Test — April 26, 2026 🥋

Congratulations to all of our Black Belt candidates on this incredible accomplishment!

Your Black Belt represents countless hours of hard work, dedication, discipline, perseverance, and commitment. We are extremely proud of everything you put into preparing for this day and the determination you showed throughout your journey.

But remember—earning a Black Belt is not the end of the journey. It is the beginning of a new one. We hope you take everything you have learned through Hapkido beyond the mat and use it to become stronger leaders, better teammates, and better people.

Congratulations on your new rank and this well-earned achievement. Keep learning, keep growing, and keep setting new goals beyond the Black Belt.

We are proud of each and every one of you. 🥋👏

Congratulations, Black Belts!

Introducing one of our Hapkido black belt candidates: Tabby Kaiman! 🥋

“I want to become a black belt because it will show all the hard work I’ve put in to reach this goal. It’s like graduating from 8th grade to high school. Every belt is like a grade level, and after 8th grade, I transition to high school, where I learn more advanced techniques and refine what I already know. A black belt is a visual representation of all the work, time, and effort I’ve put into hapkido. I look up to all the black belts, and when I earn mine, I’ll be one step closer to their level. The other black belts have perfected techniques from white belt to brown-black belt, they’re able to teach them, and they continue to learn even more. Even though I have reached black belt, I will continue learning, practicing, and teaching.”

Congratulations to Tabby for becoming a Hapkido Black Belt in Barrios Martial Arts & Fitness!

Introducing one of our Hapkido black belt candidates: Sadie Kaiman! 🥋

"Ever since I first stepped onto the white mat with my twin sister, Tabby, I have learned countless techniques and grown so much. Having Tabby with me has always been one of my greatest motivations in hapkido. At first hapkido was never a race. We would challenge each other to see who would gain the next stripe or learn a new technique the fastest. But at we got more serious about hapkido, practice shifted to being about achieving the goals we se and becoming the best versions of ourselves on and off the mat. My sister, who I once might’ve considered my biggest rival, is now my teammate and peer. She is someone I can grow with and learn from."

Congratulations to Sadie for becoming a Hapkido Black Belt in Barrios Martial Arts & Fitness!

Introducing one of our Hapkido black belt candidates: Nathaniel Yamada! 🥋
-
"Getting a black belt would mean that I am opening a whole new chapter in hapkido. I would have everything that I’ve learned in the past in my toolbox, but I will also continue to add new tools. It would show all the growth from white belt to black belt. I would be very proud of my accomplishment because it would be a
major milestone in my life, especially since I’ve been
doing hapkido for 10 years. "

Introducing one of our Hapkido black belt candidates: Joseph Porten! 🥋
-
"It was hard to show up for class when sports and school became busier and busier as I got older. I never fully stopped or gave up, but it felt that way sometimes when I could only make it once a week. Interestingly, no matter how bad a mood I was in when I entered the studio, I would always come out feeling much better, which is how I knew that Hapkido was an important part of my life."
