Moves I'd rather do
Than Clamshell
I'm going to rant so stick with me. If one more client comes to me with a handout from their doctor saying do clamshells because your back/hips/knees hurt I will lose my mind.
Today a client in his late 80s came with a list of exercises:
Clamshells
Figure 4
Bridges
Hamstring Stretch
This client has heart and lung issues. Do you know why these moves might not be best for him?
Find out in my online workshop

How are you getting more range?
I’m not talking about stretching farther.
I’m talking about changing the conditions and seeing what range becomes available when the body has a different job to do.
Getting in a quick workout with Natasha Stokes-Nair | NCPT who came in feeling tightness in her shoulder.
From the reformer to the FitSprings we changed the line of pull to give the body somewhere new and different to work on.
This felt very gyro like which we loved!

If a client asks:
Do you dream this up
Say yes!
I dream that your body is able to go to any class and be able to know how to adapt.
I dream that you have movement epiphanies and realize where you need to work differently .
I dream you never get injured and if you do you come back stronger than ever.
So yes, this is a change in the line of pull and it is asking your body to figure it all out and I dream it works out for you better than unilateral strap work on the reformer lying down.

Pilates Chair + Rotation
Multi Tasking the Body
Life rarely gives your body one job at a time. Right now I'm wrangling a cat who had surgery and writing this caption.
In our day to day we balance while reaching for something. We rotate while our legs are moving. We hold a cat while trying to open up a carrier.
Give your body something to solve and watch how it adapts. It's a miracle I have not been bit!

Today's lesson:
Competitive Aging
I prepare bodies to fall and not break and also to not shrink since one day everyone will be my height.
Training goals using my Pilates and FitSprings equipment are always to get clients to access their strength when life changes.
The no springs Pilates Cadillac push through bar exercise is a fun one to start with.
The reformer box push is an oldie but effective move.
The FitSprings move is so flipping hard and the most powerful way to see who uses one side more and isn't firing as quick as they can!
Which do you like?

We should train standing.
Just maybe not in a group class on the reformer!
Standing requires balance, strength, mobility, coordination, focus and constant adjustments.
Upright reactive training matters and can be done safely in many different ways. Know the body in front of you. Know the potential response you may get.
And know what you're trying to train.
This is the reason I created FitSprings. I wanted a way to safely train upright movement, balance and reaction without making the reformer do something it wasn't designed to do.

Where in life do you stabilize first and mobilize second?
Think about that... getting out of the car you are rotating and stepping down and holding on to your phone or bag.
Walking down the street and someone is closing in on your space do you look?
We are constantly doing multiple things at once and our training needs to reflect this.
The reformer set up I chose here for Sebastian Saephanh and I is asking our bodies to dual task.
One task is keeping constant pressure on the ball at the reformer footbar to stabilize our standing leg and the other is to press and rotate while moving an arm or twisting the spine.
Stability, mobility, strength, balance and coordination are constantly negotiating with each other.
So why train them separately all the time?
Train the body for life don't just teach exercises.
