It’s a traditional gesture — a symbol of freedom from the past, and an opportunity for joyous surrender✨

I first saw this offering during my visits to the Isha Yoga Center in 2023 and 2024. I noticed it, but I didn’t feel the calling — not yet.

This time was different. I knew this was the right place, the right moment — offering my hair to Devi, in reverence of Guru Purnima, right as my Sadhanapada journey officially began✨

Instantly, I was ready. Ready to let go of old energies, of ego, of identity — to fully immerse in what is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It opened me up, made me more receptive to universe’s energy 🌎

It truly feels liberating🥰

You know how it is with a tree — cut it back, and right at that point, new leaves grow with new energy. That’s the motivation. 🍃

By the way, so many of you asked what did the barber do? Honestly, it was fascinating. He asked me to put my hair in a ponytail then he just shaved it all off. Front, sides, back, one clean sweep. So many new sensations!🔥

Guru Purnima marks the day Adiyogi (Shiva) became the first Guru. Over 15,000 years ago, after 84 years of intense preparation, he turned south — becoming Dakshinamurthi — and transmitted the science of yoga to the Saptarishis, his first seven disciples.

Two key layers of significance:

• The First Transmission — the moment yoga went from personal realization to a teachable science, handed to humanity’s first seekers.
• Dakshinayana Begins — this full moon also marks the sun’s shift into its southern run, a period traditionally considered more conducive to inner growth and sadhana.

The day is celebrated as a chance for seekers to become receptive to grace — honoring not just a historical transmission, yet an ongoing invitation to transformation.

Tonight is a big celebration with Sadhguru & the whole yoga ashram!✨

Do you know the concept of Gurukulam? Ages ago in India, it was a period where people went to stay with their Yoga Guru for 12 years. They learned & practiced yoga, meditation, & important life tools that their Yoga Guru offered.

Nowadays 12 years is not possible for many people. Due to family, work, responsibility etc.

Thus Sadhguru designed this Sadhanapada Gurukulam program into 7 months here at the Isha Yoga Center Ashram in Coimbatore, South India.

This is a commitment to a strict schedule from 4:30am - 9:30pm. No time off. No expectations. Just an open mind and heart.

In my group, we have over 1,000+ participants from all over the world. There are over 100 departments that operate the ashram that we will also support through seva/volunteering.

Sadhguru, a Yoga Guru, who is very much alive! This means the quality of the energy transmitted to us is a completely different experience.

I am truly humbled, blessed, grateful for this once in a lifetime opportunity.

Also I am grateful to my love, David & our family’s support with my yoga journey that continues to support the vision of Deafhood Yoga. Namaskaram 🙏🏼🩵🪷
