The kickers who make the most kicks aren’t the ones with the “big leg”. The difference comes down to one decision you make before you signal for the ball to be snapped. Swipe to see what it is.

You’ve missed kicks that felt great off your foot, but went wide. Most of the time that kick was lost before you even took your jab step. The line you picked only worked if you hit your A ball. No margin for anything less. The smart kicker builds the margin in before the snap. Be the smart kicker.

Having the tools to handle multiple less-than-perfect game situations and still make kicks starts with picking the best target line for that situation. Your A ball goes through. Your B ball still scores. Because you already accounted for both before the play started. That is not a talent. That is a choice available to every kicker on every kick.

The snap, the hold, the wind. None of those are yours to control. The line you pick before the snap is. That one decision is the difference between three points and zero.

Do push your field goals to the right? If you’re holding your follow-through straight down your target line after contact, you’re not allowing your leg to finish the kick. And not finishing the kick is a power leak.

Remember this formula: open (backswing) + square (contact) + close (follow-through) = power in the swing arc
