On Wednesday, July 1, 2026, CDR Gabriel "Leeroy" Edwards made the ultimate sacrifice after his MH-60S Seahawk went down in the Arabian Sea. CDR Edwards was the Commanding Officer of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 5 from Naval Air Station Norfolk, Virginia.
“Commander Gabe Edwards was the epitome of selfless leadership, who dedicated himself to service and sacrifice for the last 20 years,” said Capt. Matthew Lewis, commander of Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 7.
The family affected by this mishap has given The Wingman Foundation their support in launching this fundraiser to help with current and future expenses. Rest assured, 100% of all donations will go to those affected. Thank you for your honorable commitment to our Navy and Marine Corps Aviation family.
