We are so excited! Our voice is being heard, and the City of San Diego has installed the audible traffic signal at the intersection of 10th Avenue and J Street. If you have ever tried to cross this extremely PERILOUS intersection, you know this was an extremely consequential effort to ensure that WE can travel our city without fear. WE are so grateful to our chapter members and ally for all your efforts! Special thanks go to Julia, Allison, Janet, Ali, Jerrod, Dan, Beatrice, and Eric have selflessly invested in this effort.
WE are living the promise of our Federation. WE WILL live the life we WANT and We will keep the momentum going! Once again, thank you all! This could not have happened without all of you.

Update from President Julia: Today, the leadership team of the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) San Diego Chapter had an incredibly productive collaboration meeting with city officials. We were absolutely thrilled to have three department heads at the table: Engineering, Transportation, and ADA Compliance. This level of high-ranking engagement is a massive milestone for our community!
A few major highlights from today:
ποΈ Bi-Monthly Meetings: Rania Amen, Chief of Engineering, suggested we meet every two months to keep this momentum going. This is a huge step forward for consistent, actionable progress!
π National Impact: We were able to share the recent passage of NFB Resolution 2026-11 regarding accessible pedestrian signals, bringing national urgency to our local efforts.
π¦ Safety First: There is no doubt the city received our message loud and clearβwe are fiercely serious about advocating for our safety.
I am so incredibly proud of the progress we are making in maintaining strong, collaborative relationships with the city.
A massive shoutout and thank you to Jerrod, Ali and Janet for continuing to show up and stand with me at these meetings. It has been an empowering learning experience, and there is nothing quite like the feeling of speaking up and truly being heard.
Letβs keep this incredible momentum going! πͺπ¦―β¨
