No stroke demands more mobility than breaststroke.

Here’s the truth, world class breaststroke requires world class mobility in the hips, knees, ankles, and back . And while not everyone is built to reach that elite level of flexibility, that’s not the point. The point is ANY improvement in your mobility will make you a better breaststroker.

Watch this to learn why mobility is the foundation of great breaststroke and why working on yours is always worth it.

Taking a look at your technique underwater is one of the best ways to spot flaws in your strokes.

Here at The Race Club we offer a video analysis service where we get underwater as well as overwater footage of all four of your strokes, your open turns, flip turns, underwaters, and breaststroke pullouts, compiling them into one cohesive video. One of our professional coaches voiceover the video and breakdown exactly what they like that you are doing, and what needs some work. Often swimmers don't realize the mistakes they are making in the water until they see the underwater shot which can be very revealing.

Come visit us in San Diego and take a deep dive into your stroke technique!

Hip-driven freestyle is the most efficient way to swim. Rotate your hips to lengthen the arm and get more distance per stroke. We love using fins and a snorkel for the 6-kick-1-stroke drill so swimmers can keep a steady head while engaging the whole body to rotate and reach farther down the pool.

This backstroke technique just helped set a national record.

Sara Curtis kept her head submerged in backstroke reducing frontal drag and unlocking serious speed. And the exciting part is, this is exactly what we teach at The Race Club.

By keeping the head submerged, swimmers cut through the water with less resistance and less drag always means more speed.

This video breaks down how it works, who did it first, and why it might be the future of fast backstroke.

Watch until the end, then tell us, have you ever seen this before?

There are two types of swimmers in this world.
Those who warm down like champions... and those who just go through the motions.

🚫 THE LAZY SWIMMER
Warming down just to check the box. Sloppy streamlines, lazy breathing, cutting the lap short before they even reach the wall.

✅ THE MINDFUL SWIMMER
Still locked in — reinforcing good habits even when no one's watching. This is the swimmer standing on the podium when the season ends.

By the end of the season, the mindful swimmer wins. Every. Single. Time.

Hot take: rotation is MORE important in backstroke than in freestyle. Agree or disagree?

Here’s the thing. Everyone talks about rotation in freestyle, but in backstroke it plays an even bigger role in power generation, maintaining body position, and long axis coupling. Yet most swimmers barely think about it.

Watch this breakdown and then tell us in the comments, did you know this?

The breaststroke pullout is comprised of three propulsive phases, the first being the dolphin kick. You must take full advantage of this dolphin kick making it as powerful as possible !

What are elite breaststrokers doing that you’re not?

The beast breaststrokers elevate their shoulders and pull wide to generate power and set up perfect timing. But most swimmers do the opposite, pulling narrow and letting the shoulders slump.

The good news? It’s fixable. In this video we break down one of our favorite drills at The Race Club to correct it and get you pulling like the best in the world.
