If you don’t struggle with depression, you know someone who does—one conversation can save a life.

1 Degree of Separation is a comedy show aiming to end the stigma of mental illness. Depression has one degree of separation--if you don't suffer then someone you know does. Our mission is to bring dialogue, awareness, and acceptance to depression through laughter and vulnerability. At a 1 Degree show, our hilarious comedians talk about depression in an entertaining and enlightening way, as they sh

BEFORE WE BEGIN ❤️

Tomorrow, we begin with the first of the 5 Questions used by 1 Degree of Separation.

Before we do, we want you to understand exactly what we do—and what we don’t do.

1° does not give mental-health advice.

We are not therapists, clinicians, or medical professionals, and we don’t pretend to be.

We share lived experience.

Our comedians talk openly about their own experiences with depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, recovery, relationships, and the things they’ve learned about themselves along the way.

The 5 Questions aren’t about diagnosing someone, fixing someone, or telling someone what they should do.

They’re about starting conversations.

When we share clinical information, research, or professional guidance during this series, we’ll identify and credit the professionals or credible sources it comes from.

Our mission is simple:

Use comedy and lived experience to change the way we talk about depression and su***de—because one conversation can save a life.

Over the next five weeks, we’re going to ask some very simple questions.

Some of the answers may not be simple at all.

Tomorrow we start with Question 1:

What does your depression feel like?

September is Su***de Prevention Month. 💜🩵

And this year, we don’t just want to talk about su***de prevention.

We want to start conversations.

At 1 Degree of Separation, we’ve learned something after hundreds of events and thousands of conversations:

Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do for someone who is struggling is simply know what to ask.

So throughout September, we’re doing something called:

THE WEEKLY 5

Each week, we’ll take one of the 5 Questions we teach in our su***de prevention training and go a little deeper.

We’ll hear from our comedians and people with lived experience.

We’ll talk about what depression can actually feel like—not just what it looks like from the outside.

We’ll share some education, some humor, some uncomfortable truths, and hopefully a whole lot of connection.

And we want YOU involved too.

Because these questions aren’t just for people living with depression.

They’re for spouses.
Parents.
Friends.
Youth.
Coworkers.
Coaches.
Teachers.
Commanders.
And anyone who loves someone who struggles.

Our first question is coming Monday:

“What does your depression feel like?”

It sounds simple.

The answers might surprise you.

💜 One conversation can save a life.

We’re back at Camp Lejeune for three Su***de Prevention Trainings. 🇺🇸

Today, we had chaplains, mental health leadership, and therapists attending our program—all because of Dr. Owen, one of 1 Degree of Separation’s greatest supporters.

The work he does behind the scenes to open doors for us across Marine installations often goes unseen, but it has made a real difference. Because of his commitment, more service members are having conversations that can truly save lives.

Dr. Owen, thank you for believing in this mission and for caring so deeply for the men and women who serve our country. You don’t just talk about making a difference—you take action to make it happen.

We are grateful for your partnership and honored to stand alongside you in creating conversations that save lives. ❤️🇺🇸

Thank you to the Rotary Club of Santa Clara for inviting Brad to be your guest speaker. It was an honor to share our mission of creating conversations that save lives from su***de.

Thank you to all of the Rotarians who attended, and for the incredible work you do to serve and strengthen your communities. We are grateful for your support and for your commitment to making a difference.

Together, one conversation can save a life. ❤️

Thank you, Adam, for making this meeting happen.
And thank you, Tim, for all that you do to help others, and for taking the time to sit down and talk with us.
At the end of the day, we’re all on the same team—working together to save lives from su***de. Grateful for the opportunity to collaborate and continue moving this mission forward. ❤️

We had our second meeting with the Ignite the Light team today. A few of them attended a 1 Degree of Separation presentation last month in Pleasant Grove to experience it firsthand, and hearing their feedback afterward was incredibly encouraging.
They are now 100% behind partnering with us to bring an event to their community in the near future.
Personally, watching this organization come alongside us feels like an answered prayer. God continues to open doors, connect hearts, and remind us that this mission was never meant to be carried alone.
We’re grateful… and excited for what’s ahead. ❤️
