I don’t normally do gear reviews (maybe I should) but I wanted to give a shout-out to my new favorite dive light.

I picked up the Bigblue Dive Lights AL1300NPGS after SCUBA Show 2026 in Long Beach, where I got a 20% off discount code. When I finally went to order it, the code wouldn’t work. I contacted Big Blue customer service and, even though the promotion had technically expired, they honored the 20% discount anyway. Great first impression.

The light itself has been even better.

You get FOUR brightness levels, so you can dial it back when you don’t need all 1300 lumens—or crank it up when you do. At full power the beam cuts through the water like a Light Saber!
I love the built-in green laser It’s surprisingly useful underwater for pointing out critters to my students, or getting your buddy’s attention without waving the light around.

I also really like the battery-level indicator, which takes the guesswork out of how much charge you have left. Battery life is excellent, especially when you’re not running it at full power the entire dive. They advertise that the battery will last for “two hours of run time”, but I always turn my light on & off as needed. I rarely leave it turned on. I’m having NO PROBLEM getting 2 dives out of 1 battery charge.

Compact, powerful, and versatile - the Big Blue AL1300NPGS is officially my new favorite dive light.

I know this is going to sound dumb af to a lot of people… but diving a Drysuit is SO COOL!!!

Getting out of the water after an hour-long dive down to 100 feet deep, and THE ONLY THING THAT IS WET is my hair and my hands - SO AWESOME!

It was an arduous journey to get to this point. I proudly purchased a very nice (very expensive) Drysuit and it leaked like a sieve through the first 5 or 6 dives. I was so angry and frustrated. I almost returned it twice. I almost threw it into a dumpster. The suit I got, when i got it, was BRAND NEW still factory sealed in the plastic. Human hands had not touched my drysuit since it left the manufacturer.
Out of the box, it had a hole in the neck seal, and the valves were improperly installed.

But - the sliver lining is that I became a drysuit expert! I basically became a ninja master of removing and replacing the wrist seals and neck seal. I learned how to remove and replace the valves. I learned how to fully disassemble, service, and reassemble the valves…
AND NOW IT WORKS!! IT’S DRY!

Now I know that scene in True Lies where Harry comes out of the water, up through the ice, and has a perfectly manicured (dry) tuxedo on underneath his suit IS ACTUALLY DOABLE!
