I remember first learning about Dolly Parton when watching “Steel Magnolias” as a kid. I soon found out that she was also a singer. I never knew that you could do more than one thing as a child and I loved that!
As I grew older I learned of her accomplishments, not only in her music career, but also as a philanthropist.
Yesterday I learned something new. I learned that with her $10 million royalty earnings from Whitney Houston’s version of “I Will Always Love You”, she bought an abandoned office and strip mall in Nashville, Tennessee. In a predominately black neighborhood, she invested in the community and nicknamed it “The House that Whitney Built”.
Today’s post is in honor of the late and great Dolly Parton. Not only was she a great artist, she truly represented what it means to be a kind and strong woman in this world. With her passing, I can only hope that little girls learn about her and use her as a role model especially when trying to be true to yourself.
