Golf is about making smart decisions.
When you’re around the green with a bunker in front of you and plenty of room behind the flag, the smart play is simple: make sure your next shot gets on the green.

Don’t leave it short in the bunker and turn one shot into two.

🧠 Use your 15th Club — make smart decisions, avoid unnecessary trouble, and save strokes.

The smart shot can save your score.

When you find trouble, don’t automatically try the hero shot.

Take the high-percentage play: get the ball safely back into the fairway, back in play, and give yourself a clean shot to the green.

You may not make birdie—but you can still save par, avoid the big number, and keep your round moving in the right direction.

That’s using your 15th club: your mind.

🏌️ Your most important club may be the one that isn’t in your bag—your mind.

Smart golf course management can save strokes before you ever swing.

When trouble is on one side of the hole, tee your ball on that same side of the tee box and aim away from the danger. This gives you a better angle and more room to keep the ball in play.

Don’t just swing harder—play smarter.

Chicken Wing

08/11/2026

⛳ Three Remedies to Eliminate the Chicken Wing

A bent lead arm through impact can cause you to slice the ball, lose distance, and hit shots fat.

Try these three drills to promote better extension:

1️⃣ Make practice swings using only your lead arm.
2️⃣ Swing an Orange Whip or weighted orange-ball trainer.
3️⃣ Add ring weights to your club and make controlled practice swings.

Each drill helps you feel the lead arm extending outward and staying straighter through impact—just like the pros!

Work on that extension for cleaner contact, more power, and straighter shots.

🏌️‍♂️⛳ Avoid the Dreaded Chicken Wing! 🐔💪

Watch the best players in the world 🌎🏆 and you’ll notice one thing: their arms stay fully extended through impact and into the follow-through! 💥

When the lead arm bends too early, it creates the dreaded “chicken wing” 🐔—costing you power ⚡, consistency 🎯 and solid contact 🏌️‍♂️.

The goal isn’t to keep your arms stiff! 🚫
Let them extend naturally through the ball as your body continues rotating toward the target. 🔄⛳

✅ Rotate through
✅ Extend toward the target
✅ Finish balanced
✅ Create more power 💥

Better extension means better contact, more consistency and stronger golf shots! 🎯🔥

⛳ SHORT GAME SERIES — PART 4: KNOW YOUR WEDGES

What makes one wedge different from another? 🏌️‍♂️

At the Alamo City Golf Coaches Camp, legendary wedge designer Roger Cleveland breaks down the parts of a wedgeand explains how loft changes throughout a wedge setup.

From 45° → 50° → 55° → 60°, Roger walks through the 5-degree progression in loft and the design behind each club.

Joined by Ray Garza, Dick Logan PGA, Jake Stevenson, Christi Cano, and area high school golf coaches, it’s a great look at the details behind one of the most important parts of the golf bag. ⛳🎯

🏌️‍♂️ When Roger Cleveland talks... golf coaches listen.

We were honored to welcome legendary club designer Roger Cleveland to the Alamo City High School Golf Coaches Camp, where he shared his expertise alongside Dick Logan, Ray Garza, Jake Stevenson, and Christi Cano. ⛳

🎥 In this first lesson of our exclusive series, Roger explains one of the keys to great pitching from inside 40 yards.

💡 His focus? A shallow, flowing swing that allows the club to strike the turf just in front of the golf ball—creating clean contact, better consistency, and improved distance control around the greens.

Whether you're a coach, competitive player, or weekend golfer, these are the same fundamentals taught by one of golf's most respected minds.

👀 Stay tuned as we release more lessons from Roger Cleveland over the coming weeks!
