This piece in our Spring concert was Fire 🔥 we revisited the piece this past Monday and we were reminded just how much we love it. The musical composition “Ande Comigo” by our very own Andy Medeiros is so beautiful and creates such a vibe with the dancers ❤️🔥

A bit about Adriana:
A Brazilian percussionist from Bahia, Adriana Portela started in the musical area in 1992, through Maestro Neguinho do Samba, the creator of samba-reggae, founder of Didá Educational and Cultural Association and Didá Band.

She was the first woman to conduct an all-female samba-reggae band in Brazil, Didá Banda Feminina.

A Percussionist and drummer of the Didá Band, she has played with several celebrities of the Brazilian and international musical genres such as: Caetano Veloso, Gal Costa, Simone, Elza Soares, Carlinhos Brown, Shakira, Daniela Mercury, Margareth Menezes, Milton Nascimento, and Vanessa da Mata.

Adriana has traveled to various countries: France, USA, Argentina, Uruguay, El Salvador, Dominican Republic, Spain, and Canada while teaching her percussive musical work.

Adriana has a degree in Social Work, postgraduate in Social Project Management, and she is a Master's Student in Social Sciences from the Federal University of Bahia. Adriana has always seen music as the driving force of large living constructions and also as a tool capable of crossing boundaries, enabling the knowledge of diverse cultures.

What a beautiful experience this is. Drumming with women is fun and powerful. We have five mother-daughter duos participating in this series. Women of different ages and walks of life coming together in rhythm, beauty, laughter, power, and joy. We are so happy to be offering this, our first drum series for women and femmes! And all of this building toward welcoming our special guest artist, Adriana Portela from Salvador, Bahia, coming for a cultural exchange August 6-10! That series is co-ed ⭐️ Come drum! ❤️🥁
