Learning the steps and meaning behind Irish dance We learn about the tradition of Irish dance and some basic steps from St. Pete Irish Dance, which offers lessons for kids and adults of all ages.

What’s in a dance tune that makes you want to move? 🎻🕺

Join fiddle teacher Niall Mulligan on Saturday September 12th for a small-group workshop on what gives Irish fiddling its drive and lift, and how that departs from a classical approach. He’ll get into the rhythmic patterns of common dance tunes, bowing, how ornaments drive the music, and how to make tunes more dancer-friendly. Materials for some dance tune examples will be provided prior to the workshop. Other instrument players welcome!

Niall has over thirty years of teaching, with students who’ve earned Mid-Atlantic and All-Ireland fiddle titles. He has played for dance competitions throughout Ireland, UK, and USA. As a former dancer with Riverdance, he has firsthand feel for what makes a tune move a dancer.
