The class begins with 20–30 minutes of instruction and demonstrations, covering proper shooting form, different types of shots, and when to use them. Then it’s onto the courts! You’ll practice specific shots with coaches there to provide hands-on guidance and help with proper execution.⁠

As members of the St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club, we have the privilege of walking the same courts where some of the greatest players in the history of the sport competed—including the legendary Mae Hall (1910–2003).

Mae began playing shuffleboard in 1946 with her husband, Herbert, in Colorado. What started as a pastime would become one of the most remarkable careers the sport has ever seen.

Known for her precision, Mae became famous for knocking her opponents' discs into the kitchen with remarkable consistency. After making St. Petersburg her home in the early 1960s, she became one of the sport's most celebrated champions and helped cement the Club and St. Pete's reputation as the Shuffleboard Capital of the World.

🥇 Won an astounding 15 Masters Championships
🥇 Inducted into the Florida Shuffleboard Hall of Fame in 1962
⭐ Featured twice in Sports Illustrated
🎯 Accumulated 2,224 career tournament points—points awarded for tournament wins and placements—a record that still stands today.

Legend has it that fans even waved Mae Hall dolls from the tournament stands as they cheered her on. While the story is anecdotal, it gives a sense of the larger-than-life reputation Mae had in the shuffleboard world.

More than six decades later, Mae Hall's legacy is still part of these courts. Today's members aren't simply playing the same game—they're carrying forward a tradition more than a century in the making.

This fall, four Board of Directors positions will be up for election, with terms beginning in January. To be eligible to serve on the Board, members must have maintained Club membership for at least two years.
