Bio Shifu Michael Haley

Michael Haley began his martial arts training in Buffalo, NY, USA in 1981 at the age of 14. First learning Hong Jia, from Master Ting Fong Wong of Hong Kong. After training in this style for 3 years he began studying Okinawan GoJu Ryu Karate under 2nd Dan Les Heri in 1986. After years of training 4-5 times a week he obtained his black belt and for the next several years he fought in I.S.K.A full contact tournaments, tough man competitions and form competitions.

In 1991 he switched interests back into the Chinese martial arts after attending a seminar taught by Xun Kwan Long (James Sun). He immediatly began to train in 8 Step Praying Mantis under Shifu Dean Economos in Buffalo NY.

In 1995 Shifu Haley was given the rare opportunity to move to San Francisco, California, USA to continue studying 8 Step Praying Mantis and Wu Style Taiji Quan directly under Shifu Xun Kwan Long then he and Master Dean Economos certified and ranked him as 1st grade Shifu and was given the generation name Di Long(earth dragon) and became a 6th generation disciple student under the great grandmaster Jiang Hua Long Lineage.

In 1996 while living in San Francisco he met world famous Qi Gong master, Yan Chu Feng, and began learning a high level medical qigong, Jin Gon Tzu Li Gong (Projecting Qi Skill) and became her first American tudi (student) Yen Chu Fan later moved from San Francisco, California, USA to live with Shifu Haley and now resides in Buffalo, New York, USA.

Shifu Haley teaches traditional and authentic Ba Bu Tang Lang Quan, (8 Step Praying Mantis) and Wu style Taiji Quan, Jin Gon Tzu Li Gong (Projecting Qi Skill) and iron palm and at his school "Kung Fu USA" original location 568 North French Rd Amherst NY, in 2005 moved the school to 30 Patrick Lane Depew, NY 14043 USA.716-335-8580.

He has taught seminars and performed demonstrations in New York, New Jersey, California and Florida. He's been published in the mantis quarterly twice and featured in Modern Masters of the Martial Arts. One of Joel Sutton's trainers who made his debut in UFC6 and seven winning both of his bouts hosted Pancreas World champion Yoshiki Takahashi for UFC 7 in Niagara Falls, New York. He has also taught Taiji for the continuing education programs at Sweet Home school district in Amherst, NY. Assistant instructor for NYS Special Weapons & Tactics. Head judge for amateur MMA and sanctioned Kickboxing fights across WNY. Wanted to share this as I see friends in need…..The wisest advice I was ever given was from a Buddhist monk when I was 14 and first started in martial arts. He explained to me that if I wanted to end pain and suffering in my life, I simply have to focus only on the present moment at all times … Do not put any energy into the past he said, it's already gone and cannot be changed. Do not put any energy into the future, for it is not here and changes every second….. He said to put all 100% of your energy into the now…
There's a reason it's called “the present” it is all we ever have. If you stop and think right now everything in your life is ok. It is only when you stop paying attention to the present that suffering begins… Hope this helps those who need
