Today I'm finishing up my training to be a Social and Emotional Learning Coach for kids at a nearby school during the day. Due to this, I was closed Wednesday and only taught three kids' classes this week.

I realized last night that it made me feel a bit unsettled not seeing my students as much this week. While this new schedule will be challenging physically and mentally, this also lets me know how much it will be worth it and how every time I get the privilege of saying "Group Class Line Up," it will all be worth it.

Aw man, look at these smiles and proud young warriors! This right here is why I do it. Six of the eight awesome kids came to the first ever Advanced Class and received their certificates! Two more will get theirs next week. I had them do a new fun drill called Tiger In The Cage (junior) as a reward for all of their hard work. I'm pretty sure that I had more fun than they did!

Six months ago today, American Street Edge opened its doors.

These past few months I've been so grateful to get to see Franklin County kids walk taller. I get stopped regularly in St. Clair by people with encouraging words. I have had adult students from the women's seminars, to the senior classes to the adult private lessons all tell me they feel safer and more confident.

That means a great deal.

The school was closed today due to being out of town to train for my new day job as a Social Emotional Learning Coach in a nearby school; but my heart was on the carpet thinking back over these past six months.

The mission continues — helping kids during the school day, then coming back here in the late afternoon and evening to serve families. Every time I step onto that carpet it remains a high honor.

Grateful for the first six months. Looking forward to what comes next.

Thank you St. Clair and Franklin County for helping us get this far.

REMINDER: The school is closed on Wednesday. This Thursday *only* the kids' class will be at 05:30 PM.

Starting this week, the Thursday class will be for kids who are on their 3rd Card and/or have achieved the rank of Half Yellow Belt.

I will be checking messages on Wednesday and I can arrange for an appointment if someone would like to come in this week to sign up your child or get in on the very limited Adult 12 Week Private Lesson Special. Next week, all classes will be at their regular times.

Thank you everyone for being accomdating during this time that I am training for the new daytime position!

Celebrate!
Now THAT'S how you kick off the Six Month Anniversary Week! These two amazing little girls have put in the work and earned their Third Card Kids Certificate! Very proud instructor!

We had a very high spirited and all around awesome class tonight with some of the new Half Yellow Belt Kids. Before that, I had an individual Adult lesson where we focused on techniques on the body. To top it all off, Street Edge SuperMom Andrea brought me dinner! That culture of everyone looking out for each other, friendships being made and lives changing is happening.

Protecting and helping people runs in our blood, look at what my great niece Marissa did! One seriously proud Uncle right now!

🚑 Celebrating Our First FTEP Graduates! 🚑

Earlier this year, we proudly released Marissa, Andrew, and Charles for full duty after completing our newly developed FTEP (Field Training and Evaluation Program) for new hires!

This group was the first class to go through our new FTEP program, which was developed to provide new team members with a structured transition into the field while ensuring they have the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to provide excellent patient care.

👏 Charles – Started the program as an EMT and was released as a Paramedic after obtaining his paramedic license during his FTEP rides!

We are incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication each of them put into the process. They helped set the standard for our FTEP program and paved the way for future new hires who will follow in their footsteps.

Congratulations, Marissa, Andrew, and Charles! We are proud to have you on our team! 🚑❤️💙

Testing the Waters – New Adult Thursday Night Training Group

I’m looking at starting a one-night-a-week intense group class beginning mid-October.

Thursday nights
5:45 – 7:00 PM

What you’ll get each week:

Body, pad, and dummy work

Different scenario-based training and concepts

Street self-defense techniques

Old-school Kenpo Karate taught with modern methods

This is for people in their twenties and thirties (and solid adults of any age) who are in decent to good health, have good mobility, and want to train hard. No uniforms. No contracts. No make-up classes — if you miss, you miss.

First 10 people: only $33 a month for three months (once a week). Must pay for three months in advance.

After the first 10: $129 for three months.

I’m testing the waters on this one. If enough people show real interest; I'll set it up.
