James Babers & Sir’Real Smith Reunite at Delta College
Delta College is adding a familiar face as James Babers has committed to return to basketball with the Pioneers. Babers previously committed to Delta out of Saginaw High School in 2020, and now he’ll have an opportunity to continue his playing career back home.
His return becomes an even bigger storyline with Sir’Real Smith being granted another year of eligibility to return to Delta College. Smith is coming off a huge 2025–26 season in which he led the nation in scoring and earned NJCAA Division II Second-Team All-American and MCCAA Northern Player of the Year honors.
But this is bigger than basketball. Babers and Smith were teammates at Saginaw High and are lifelong best friends, and now their basketball journeys have brought them together again. From growing up together and representing Saginaw to now sharing the floor at the college level, the two will have a chance to write another chapter together at Delta.
Two Saginaw products. Two lifelong friends. One more opportunity to share the court — this time at Delta College.
