River Through Atlanta
Yes, a high quality trout fishery does run through Atlanta! http://www.riverthroughatlanta.com
We guide wade trips and drift boat trips for trout on the Chattahoochee river. We also guide waterfowl hunts, deer hunts with bow, rabbit hunts, dove hunts, and upland hunts in Alabama and Georgia.
Turns out, all you needed was a day on the river. 🎣
Fresh air, tight lines, and the chance to connect with something bigger than the everyday grind. Big brown trout are just a bonus.

People always ask us after seeing our posts… “Can you actually catch a 22-inch brown trout out here?”
The answer? 100% yes. 🎣
Does it happen every single trip? No—we’ll be honest about that. But hooking into 22-inch browns and other big fish happens a whole lot more than people think.
These waters hold some incredible fish, and when everything lines up, you might just find yourself battling the fish of a lifetime.
The only way to know? Get out on the river.
Why do we love guiding? 🎣🌊
For Will, it’s about so much more than catching fish.
It’s the thrill of taking someone out for their very first cast—or even their hundredth—and watching that spark of happiness hit when everything clicks. That little rush of dopamine when a fly gets eaten… it never gets old.
But being on the river is bigger than fishing. It’s a reset. A getaway. A chance to step back from the noise of everyday life and slow down—one cast at a time.
Some people leave with fish in hand. Others leave with something even better: a new passion, a fresh perspective, and memories that keep calling them back.
That’s what guiding is all about.
That’s why we do what we do.

Nothing beats time on the water with family. 🎣
Rafi was able to get his dad hooked up on a beautiful rainbow trout, and moments like these are what it’s all about — good company, tight lines, and unforgettable memories out on the river.
Whether you’re chasing your first fish or making memories with family, we’d love to get you out there.

What’s really going on beneath the surface of the river?
When we sort bugs, we’re not just looking at insects—we’re getting a snapshot of the entire river ecosystem.
One of the most common questions we hear is: “Why are there so many of the same bug in different sizes?” The answer is all about growth stages. Many aquatic insects and crustaceans go through multiple stages of development, called instars, shedding their exoskeletons as they grow larger.
During this bug sort, we found insects that were likely eggs just a month ago and are now actively moving around in the stream. What you’re seeing is only one chapter of their life cycle. They’ll continue growing, changing, and eventually emerge into the adult insects trout love to feed on.
The more bugs we find—and the more variety we see—the more we learn about the health of the river and what fish are feeding on right now.
Every scoop tells a story. 🎣🌊

Who’s ready to land their next personal best?
Ever wonder what it takes to collect the data that helps protect the Chattahoochee?
It’s not as simple as showing up at the river.
Water levels have to be right. The river needs to be safe and accessible. Release schedules from the dam have to cooperate. Seasonal sampling windows have to line up. And sometimes, volunteers only get a day’s notice before it’s time to go.
Behind every water quality report, bug survey, and river health update is a team of dedicated scientists, volunteers, and conservationists working behind the scenes to better understand and protect the waters we all enjoy.
Want to help? River stewardship isn’t just for guides, biologists, or experts. Whether you’re a fisherman, paddler, hiker, or someone who simply loves clean water, there’s a place for you in protecting Atlanta’s river.
The Chattahoochee belongs to all of us. Let’s keep it healthy for future generations.
