A big shout out to all of our members who completed their Hero Climb in honor of 9/11! We are very proud of you!

The goal for all of our challenges is to engage members in something that’s maybe a little outside of their normal routine. Something that pushes them a bit. Bob is a fantastic example of just that! A regular at the gym, Bob had not tried the stairmill before. The challenge encouraged him to try something different and now he will be incorporating this into his routine! Way to go Bob!!

Sometimes the best fitness advice is also the simplest.

The Washington Post reported this morning on new research following more than 36,000 adults with high blood pressure. The finding: adding just 1,000 steps a day was associated with a 17% lower risk of major cardiovascular problems. And the benefit wasn’t limited to people already logging huge step counts. Whether someone started around 3,000, 7,000 or nearly 10,000 steps a day, doing a little more was associated with better outcomes.

And 1,000 steps really isn’t that much. It’s roughly half a mile, or about 8–10 minutes of walking.

Which brings us back to the challenge we posted yesterday.

Our 9/11 Hero Climb is underway this week. You can climb 110 flights on the StairMill, or choose an incline on the treadmill and complete the corresponding distance. Do it all at once or spread it across several workouts.

There are plenty of complicated ways to pursue better health. Sometimes it really can be as simple as moving a little more than you did yesterday.

And this week, those extra steps can mean a little more.

This has been a go to for our trainer, Tracy this week. Crisp apples, creamy yogurt and some hearty oats hit all the marks. Great nutrients plus protein and fiber to help keep you full. And let's be honest, ANY fruit could work! Or mix and match for more color and micronutrients! Enjoy!

It's always so awesome for us to see our members create a bond inside the gym that leads to spending time together outside of the gym. These guys all met each other here, at FitMe, and for the past few months have set up a regular lunch outing to talk sports, enjoy some good food and maybe place a bet or two. It's these types of connections that bring a lot of joy to our small business and make us proud of what we stand for. Building community!

I had an interesting conversation with a member today. He asked, what I thought about a motorized under the desk bike and if it's a "scam" or actually something beneficial. These bikes move by themselves and, for the most part, carry the users legs around in a circle. There is little effort put in to performing the movement. So how could that possibly be beneficial to your fitness?

At first, I understood his point. If our brain is not organizing the movement, is it really doing us any good?

In all honesty, my answer is yes. And I'm not talking about the fact that any motion, self driven or assisted, could help with blood flow, lymphatic drainage, joint lubrication, etc. My point is that, if that motorized bike is acting as a gateway for someone to get started, to take the first step into a fitness journey, than it's 100% worth it!

Lowering the barrier of entry plays a major role in MOST (if not all) behavior change. When small steps replace big goals, you avoid feeling overwhelmed. You give yourself opportunities to feel small successes and you are more likely to build a lasting habit without burnout.

So what is a habit or behavior you've been trying to nail this year but have been having a little trouble with? How can you lower the barrier of entry to take a step towards the positive? Tell us below! We'd love to help cheer you on!

Three out of five. We’ll take that.

There are five finalists for **Best Personal Trainer** in this year’s What Rocks Community’s Choice Awards, and somehow THREE of them work right here at FitMe Wellness.

**Tracy Cusick. Rachel Dixon. Zach Burdick.**

That’s a pretty remarkable showing for one small, locally owned gym, and we couldn’t be prouder to see all three of them on the final ballot.

And while you’re there, **FitMe Wellness is also a finalist for Best Fitness Center.**

Final voting is open through August 21, and you can vote once each day.
