Deep Creek FlyFishers

Tonight - 8/26, 7pm start, Deep Creek Fly Fishers is very happy to have Mike James Quiet Fly Fisher guide service from Southern Utah.  His presentation will focus on fly fishing Boulder Mountain, home to some of the largest brook trout in Utah, along with impressive tiger trout and other species. Known for its rugged and challenging terrain, Boulder Mountain can be difficult to master, making this a presentation you won’t want to miss! 

 Mike has been fly fishing in South Central Utah for over 30 years and guiding in the area for 25 years, amassing a wealth of knowledge about the region, its fish, and its wildlife. He enjoys fishing with those who have moved past the "trophy hunt" phase of their fly fishing journey, preferring to leave the chase for big fish to his younger guides. However, he still regularly assists clients in landing the fish of a lifetime.

Mike grew up in Orem, Utah, where he was introduced to fly fishing by his father at a young age. He vividly recalls watching his dad teach each of his ten siblings how to catch fish on a river in Idaho. His father had him practice casting in the family swimming pool, challenging him to hit specific poplar leaves floating on the surface. Meanwhile, his mother often had to contend with his constant disappearances, as he would sneak off, riding his bike two miles to the Provo River to test out new techniques.

Mike began guiding in 2000 after moving to Loa to work at a fish hatchery. Those early days were filled with adventure as he guided for Road Creek, Outdoor Source, and Panguitch Anglers. Over the years, he has been featured in various fly fishing magazines and television shows, although he doesn’t dwell on the recognition. “I’ve pretty much raised my kids by guiding and fishing,” he says. With a few kids still at home, he is especially proud that his oldest son has followed in his footsteps as a guide. He remains passionate about sharing the quiet, rewarding pastime that has given him so much.

Tonight - 5/27, we are very happy to have Mike Peters from Long Branch Fly Fishing, 7pm start at the clubhouse in Fairmount Park, Riverside, CA.  Mike will be presenting:  Fly Fishing the West: Techniques, Tactics, and Species Across Four Iconic States

Whether you’re new to fly fishing or a seasoned angler, this presentation offers valuable insights for every skill level. Mike Peters will guide attendees through a dynamic overview of effective fly fishing techniques used across four premier Western destinations: California, Alaska, Oregon, and Montana.

Mike will break down strategies for both single‑handed and two‑handed Spey/switch rod applications, explaining when and why each tool excels. The session will cover a wide range of targeted species—from freshwater trout and bass to saltwater gamefish and the highly sought‑after steelhead.

Drawing on years of guiding and competitive casting experience, Mike will share practical tips, regional considerations, and proven approaches that anglers can immediately put to use on the water.

Tonight, 4/22, 7pm start at the clubhouse.  We are very happy to have Paul Lenos from Four Winds Guide Service in Redding, CA.  Paul will be talking about wade fishing and drift boat fishing the Upper and Lower Sacramento River.

Paul developed a passion for fishing early on in his life and knew where his heart was set. It was in college that he first met Oncorhynchus mykiss (the rainbow trout) in the Lake Erie tributaries of Northern Ohio. Fostering in him a passion to pursue these amazing fish that would take him across the country. After college, work in fisheries brought Paul to Northern California where he worked as a fisheries technician monitoring salmon and steelhead in the Sacramento River. Instilling in him an intimate connection to the waters we fish. In the summer, Paul has been working as a fishing guide in Alaska chasing salmon trout and steelhead. In 2017, Paul opened Four Winds Guide Service, a guide service located in Redding California.
