Heroes On The Mat 9 comes to Staten Island on Saturday, October 24 at St. Peter’s Boys High School, bringing together members of law enforcement, corrections, the military and first responder agencies from across the country for a night of submission grappling.
The main event has a strong New York law-enforcement storyline as NYPD’s Stanley Joseph takes on Sunder Singh of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office. Both men are undefeated in Heroes On The Mat competition, meaning somebody’s perfect HOTM record will come to an end on October 24. Joseph enters the match 6-0 in HOTM competition with four submissions, while Singh is 2-0 with two submissions.
The card will feature a major NYPD and New York City law-enforcement presence, with several members of the department competing and representing the job against competitors from other agencies and branches of the military.
Also stepping onto the mat will be Mark Hall of NYC Department of Correction ESU, who returns to Heroes On The Mat competition, as well as Brian Saryian, representing Manhattan Courts.
Heroes On The Mat was founded by an NYC Department of Correction officer and was created to give law enforcement officers, first responders and military personnel a platform to represent their agencies through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and submission grappling.
HOTM 9 brings that mission home to New York City, giving members of the law-enforcement community the opportunity to compete in front of their families, friends and fellow officers. The event also has a charitable component, with $5 from every ticket sold being donated to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

For the BOLDEST community, it’s an opportunity to come out and support our own as members of the NYPD and fellow NYC law-enforcement agencies trade their uniforms for rash guards and represent their departments on the mat.
