That one person who uses anything as an excuse not to train...

Getting back into the gym, or stepping into one for the first time, doesn't have to be complicated.

In fact, the biggest mistakes I see usually come from trying to do too much.

✅ Don't skip your warm-up. A few minutes of preparation can help you move better, feel better, and get more out of your workout.

✅ You don't need the workout program your favorite athlete uses. You need a program that matches your goals, progresses over time, and fits your schedule.

✅ Don't empty your wallet at the supplement store. Supplements can help around the edges, but they won't replace consistent training, quality nutrition, and good recovery.

The basics aren't flashy.

But they're the reason people actually make progress.

Master those first, and everything else becomes a lot easier.

We all know that one coffee addict.

One of the biggest misconceptions in strength training is that every set has to end in complete failure.

It doesn't.

In fact, if your goal is building strength over months and years, constantly emptying the tank can make it harder to recover, increase fatigue, and reduce the quality of your training later in the week.

That doesn't mean you should avoid hard work.

It means you should be intentional with it.

Some sets deserve everything you've got.

Others are there to build quality volume, reinforce technique, and keep fatigue in check so you can continue progressing throughout your training cycle.

The best lifters aren't the ones who go to failure the most.

They're the ones who can string together months of productive training without constantly digging themselves into a recovery hole.

Train with purpose, not just intensity.

One of the biggest lies in fitness is that disciplined people never struggle.

They do.

The difference is they don't let one bad decision become a bad week.

I've learned this through wrestling, the military, powerlifting, and coaching.

The people who make the most progress aren't the ones who never miss.

They're the ones who stop letting one mistake convince them they've failed.

Progress isn't built by perfection.

It's built by returning to the plan—over and over again.

What's one habit you've gotten better at sticking with over the last year?

It doesn't count if it doesn't hit the scale

There have been days where the gym wasn't about getting stronger.

It was about keeping my head above water.

Some sessions are for building muscle.

Some are for clearing your mind.

Some are just proof that you refused to quit.

If you're going through one of those seasons right now, know this:

You don't have to carry it alone, brother.

Reach out.

We'll get through it together.

Until then...

Keep showing up.

Sounds like a complete list to me

Most people think progress comes from pushing harder.

Sometimes it does.

But long-term progress comes from knowing **when not to**.

I've learned this the hard way through years of wrestling, powerlifting, strongman, and military training.

There are seasons to push.

And there are times to pull back just enough so your body can actually adapt.

That doesn't mean sitting on the couch for a week.

It means being intentional.

Reducing volume or intensity.

Letting fatigue come down.

Giving your joints and connective tissue time to recover.

The goal isn't to prove how tough you are every workout.

The goal is to keep making progress next month... next year... and five years from now.

That's how strength is built.

Not in one heroic workout, but in thousands of smart ones.

One of the biggest mindset shifts I ever made was realizing I didn't need a tougher plan.

I needed a more repeatable one.

When I was younger, I thought success meant never missing a workout and eating perfectly every day.

Then life happened.

Long workdays.

Three kids.

Military schedules.

Unexpected responsibilities.

I had two choices:

Quit every time life got busy...

Or build a system that could adapt.

That's the philosophy I coach today.

Not because it's easier.

Because it's the only approach I've found that actually lasts.

If your plan only works when life is perfect, it isn't built for real life.

Build habits that can survive the chaos.

That's where real progress happens.
