Celebrating 2 years of GRIT! 🎉

2 years ago, we packed up our things and moved to Richmond from Baltimore on a Saturday, and that Friday, less than a week later, I treated my very first patient under my brand new small business.

It’s hard to believe in just two years the vision of bringing 1-on-1 performance rehab without restrictions of insurance to Richmond, that we would have grown to four Doctors of Physical Therapy treating out of 3 locations.

Some major milestones in year 2 to celebrate:

—Supported and celebrated Dr. Greg and his decision to switch from part-time to full-time at GRIT! 👨🏼‍⚕️
—Invested in cutting edge tools with VALD Performance performance to elevate our objective testing and overall performance experience for our athletes and clients. 📊
—Officially partnered with Varina football and support their athletes all the way to the state championship title. 🏈
—Officially partnered with dominion sports collective providing weekly recovery sessions with Dr. Greg. ⚾️
—Supported Dr. Colin in pursuing his performance specialist certification through Exos Education
—Provided our second annual injury prevention workshop at Hermitage High School. Hermitage High School Track 🏃🏾‍♂️
—Watched Elkin Sports Performance get a little facelift with some fresh paint and continue to collaborate on patients and athletes care.
—Continued to support 804 strength with regular injury screens and showing up for their Deka Events.
— Supported club NOEX in their annual fitness fundraiser and continue a strong relationship with their community. 🖤
—Teamed up with Westwood Athletics and launched our third treatment space south of the river in Midlothian. 🏋🏻
—Dr. Gabby traveled to Dallas, TX to provide concierge treatment for UFL storm linebacker Chris ✈️
—Partnered with F45 Training Midlothian providing multiple injury screens and workshops for their Hyrox athletes. 🏃🏽‍♀️
—Welcomed our fourth Doctor of Physical therapy, Dr. Rosalie!
—Proud to be nominated top 5 for Richmond Times Best Physical Therapy. 🗳️
—Hired my sister Adrienne Isabella to help out with administrative tasks as the clinic stays busy. 👩🏼‍💼

I’m so proud of this team.

Year 3 loading….👀🚀

A moment for our performing arts athlete, Maddie! 💃🏻

As mentioned in the video, dance can be extremely intense and demanding on your body.

It has been incredible to support Maddie Stevens throughout her high school dance career and now into college as dance major at James Madison University.

Proud of you for turning all injuries and setbacks as an opportunity to become more resilient and strong.

Best is yet to come! 🩰

Low back flare-up after deadlifting? It happens! Even to experienced lifters.

This athlete came in with an acute low back flare-up and mild sciatic symptoms after a heavy deadlift.

Our goal was to calm symptoms, restore comfortable movement, and build a foundation for loading again.

Here’s why we started with these interventions:

➡️ Nerve flossing to improve nerve mobility
➡️ Dry needling to reduce muscle guarding
➡️ Dead bugs to reintroduce pain-free core control
➡️ Side planks to build lateral stability
➡️ Wall clamshells to get the glutes contributing again

The biggest mistake I see is either doing nothing because you’re afraid to move, or trying to “push through it” too soon.

The right rehab meets you where you are, then progresses you back to doing what you love.

Remember: every back pain presentation is different. These exercises were chosen based on this athlete’s assessment and symptoms, not because they’re the right answer for everyone.

Have you ever tweaked your back deadlifting? Give us a text/call 📲 (804) 409-2380.
