This week we're welcoming Brie to the Sportable team as our Senior Director of Adaptive Programs! Brie is no stranger to Sportable, as she has previously been a volunteer and Tailgate host, and will now connect even more athletes and families to Sportable and further broaden our impact. We're so excited to have her expertise on board.

We're only two weeks away from our Wheelchair Softball Clinic, and you don't want to strike out on this opportunity! 🥎

Come out to our clinic on the morning of Sunday, September 13 at the Bird Athletic Complex to learn and practice wheelchair softball fundamentals, such as throwing, hitting, fielding, and wheelchair mobility. This program is designed for athletes 14 & up with lower limb impairments and the ability to manually push their own sports chair. This clinic will be great for all skill levels, so even if you've never played wheelchair softball, this is a great time to take a swing at it!

We'd like to take a break from our busy summer to recognize Altria's support of Sportable's mission and programming under their employee-driven Altria Contributing Together program! This grant, given out based on the selections and nominations of Altria employees, goes to support Sportable's youth programs that expand opportunities for youth with physical disabilities and visual impairments to pursue healthy lifestyles and independence through adaptive sports.

HUGE congrats to the USA Wheelchair Rugby team and Sportable's own Mandy Marchiano on winning the GOLD MEDAL at the 2026 WWR World Championship!!!

Mandy, a longtime Sportable athlete and the 2022 Sportable Athlete of the Year, is one of two women to compete on this edition of Team USA, who brings home the first US Wheelchair Rugby championship in 16 years! Incredible job to Mandy and the whole USA Wheelchair Rugby team!

Since 2005, Sportable has been making sports accessible and inclusive for athletes with physical disabilities and visual impairments. This October, we’re bringing our community together for the return of our major fundraiser, the Sportable Tailgate, powered by Dominion Energy! Tickets for the Tailgate are now available!

Held at the Torque Club at the Richmond Raceway Complex, this casual and festive evening will feature athlete stories, music, games, a high-energy raffle, and Sportable merch for sale, all in support of Sportable’s mission to create opportunities and transform lives. Guests, start your engines and get ready to celebrate the power of adaptive sports!

🚨 Volunteers needed for our Recreational Cycling program this fall!🚨

This programs takes place on Tuesdays from 9/1/2026 to 10/13/2026 at Dorey Park, running from 5:45pm until dark.

Volunteer duties include helping unload/reload and set up bikes, riding along with athletes, and ensuring safety at crossings. Not only will you enjoy the beautiful Capital Trail, but you'll also make a huge impact our athletes.

Goalball is back! Discover the exciting sport through our introductory Goalball Clinic on Saturday, September 19th.

Designed for individuals who are blind or visually impaired, this clinic will teach participants the fundamentals of Goalball, including basic rules, techniques, and gameplay, in a fun, supportive, and inclusive environment. Through engaging drills, participants will learn and practice essential skills such as throwing, defending, communication, and court orientation.

This clinic will be held 1pm to 2:30pm at Bon Air United Methodist Church, and it is open to participants of all skill levels! Register at the link in our bio or on our website under the Current Programs page.

Get ready to move, groove, and have fun! Our seated cardio drum clinic combines rhythmic drumming with energetic upper-body and core movements using yoga balls and pool noodles. Set to upbeat music, participants will enjoy a fun, engaging workout that helps improve coordination, cardiovascular endurance, strength, and rhythm—all from the comfort and stability of a chair. No drumming or fitness experience is required—just come ready to have fun!

This clinic will be held at the Beulah Recreation Center from 6pm to 7pm on September 15th. Register at the link in our bio or on our website's Current Programs page.

Wishing good luck to the Sportable Crush as they head to Buffalo, New York for the weekend to compete in the 2026 Wheelchair Lacrosse Nationals! The games will be streamed on YouTube so we can cheer them on from RVA!

Friday will see the Crush play a gauntlet of three games - at 8am vs. NEP, 11:30am vs. Colorado, and 3:00pm vs. Iowa - before being seeded for the knockout championship bracket Saturday. Stay tuned for updates or stream the games here: https://www.youtube.com/c/WNYAthletics
