What happens when we let the body have a voice?
Body Temple Dance is a trauma-informed, spiritual and somatic movement practice created for all bodies. You don’t need dance experience, a certain level of flexibility, or any idea what you’re supposed to do.
The practice draws from yogic philosophy, ta**ra, movement therapy, and good old-fashioned dance. There’s room to feel, move, pause, shake it out, get curious, and connect with the people around you.
Our bodies hold a lot. Some days that look like joy and play. Other days, its tension, emotion, or something we can’t quite put into words. Body Temple Dance gives us space to feel it, move with it, and remember that we don’t have to leave any part of ourselves at the door.
Come as you are. Wear something you can move comfortably in and give yourself permission to be curious about what your body wants to do.

Apparently, we're supposed to push harder.
Move faster.
Sweat more.
Never take a break.
Never modify.
Never admit that something hurts.
We're supposed to somehow know what we're doing before we start, and we're supposed to make it all look effortless while we're at it.
I'm not buying it.
Movement doesn't have to be punishment to matter.
You don't have to leave every class completely exhausted for it to have been worth your time.
Some days, your body might want strength.
Other days, it might want a slower practice, a deep breath, or a little more space.
Listening to yourself isn't giving up.
It's information.
At SoulShine, we're interested in helping you build a relationship with your body that isn't based on fear, shame, or constantly trying to fix yourself.
You can work hard without hating your body.
You can rest without feeling guilty.
You can move because it feels good.
And you can change your mind about what you need.

Thinking about becoming a yoga teacher? Or already teaching and feeling curious about where you want to grow next?
Come hang with Sarah Fischer on Saturday, August 22 for a casual Q&A about yoga teacher training at SoulShine.
Bring your questions. Big ones, small ones, questions you’ve been sitting on for months. Sarah will be sharing what to expect from upcoming training opportunities and what it can look like to deepen your practice and teaching along the way.
We’ll have snacks, time to chat, and plenty of space for an honest conversation. No pressure, no need to have everything figured out before you walk through the door.

Somewhere along the way, a lot of us learned to avoid being beginners.
We don't want to look awkward. We don't want to get something wrong. We don't want anyone to notice that we don't know what we're doing.
So we wait until we're more confident, more flexible, stronger and/or more coordinated.
Guess what? Sometimes we never start at all.
But nobody walks into their first yoga class already knowing how their body will respond. Nobody picks up a hoop for the first time and immediately looks like they've been doing it for years. Nobody learns a dance sequence without missing a step along the way.
That's not failure…that's learning and it is super important to keep learning as we age.
At SoulShine, you don't have to arrive polished. You can be curious. You can be clumsy. You can laugh when you mess up and try again.
Maybe that's part of what movement gives us: a place to practice being new at something without making it mean something about our worth.
So if there's a class you've been curious about, but you've been telling yourself you're "not ready" yet, consider this your permission to be a beginner.
𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝘆𝗲𝘁.
You just have to start somewhere.
What's something you've been wanting to try?
Leave a comment or send us a message. We'd love to help you find a place to begin.

Excuse me while I do a little happy dance... 💃🏆
WE DID IT AGAIN!! (actually...YOU did it again!)
SoulShine was voted #1 Best Boutique Studio and #1 Best Adult Dance Studio by the readers of Richmond Magazine. (aka...you!)
And before anyone says, "Congratulations!"...
We really need to thank our students who love us so much that they took the time to vote and share the good news. You took time out of your day to vote for our little studio, and I don't take that for granted for one second.
Sometimes I look around SoulShine and think, "How did we get so lucky?"We have the most loving students, (for real!) the most dedicated teachers, the biggest community cheerleaders, and a community that shows up (not just for classes) but for each other.
We're not the biggest studio in Richmond.
We're just a little studio with a whole lot of heart.
Apparently... that's enough. ❤️
So thank you.
Thanks for voting.
Thanks for bringing your friends.
Thanks for telling people about SoulShine.
Thank you for trusting us with your movement, your creativity, your laughter, and even sometimes your tears.
Now just one more thing.... please tell me...Why did you vote for SoulShine? Was it your favorite class? A teacher? A friendship? Something you found here that you didn't even know you needed?
I'd love to hear your story. Leave it in the comments so we can celebrate this community together.
Love you all. And now... who's coming to celebrate with a dance party? 💛
