US Recreational Scuba Training Council, RSTC removes SSI as a member without prior notice.

The removal seems to be linked to a dispute over a gap between two sets of standards governing the Assistant Instructor qualification.

1. RSTC’s standard — the Recreational Assistant Scuba Instructor Certificate — dates to June 2002.

2. SSI has long operated under the more current ISO 24802-1 standard, second edition, issued in April 2014 and reviewed and confirmed in 2024.

(SSI) has been explicit that the removal does not affect the validity of SSI certifications, nor the ability of SSI professionals and training centres to continue delivering SSI programmes under current SSI standards.

SSI No Longer Listed in US RSTC | Diventures Magazine Scuba Schools International has quietly disappeared from the US RSTC membership page, with no statement from either party. Diventures reports on what is known, and what isn't.
