This free online class offers a gentle, body-based approach to living with chronic pain. Rooted in current pain science, we'll explore how the nervous system processes pain signals and how slow, mindful movement can help calm an overactive threat response.

Rather than pushing through discomfort, this practice invites you to build interoceptive awareness, the ability to sense and trust what's happening inside your body, so you can move with more confidence and less fear.

Every movement is offered with modifications, and you're always invited to rest, adjust, or skip anything that doesn't feel right for your body today. This is a practice of curiosity, not correction. This class offers a supportive space to reconnect with your body at your own pace.

▪️Nervous System Reset: Somatic Yoga for Anxiety▪️

Anxiety lives in our head, in our thoughts and our fears. When we reconnect to the physical body, we recognize that we are safe in this moment, and our nervous system responds to that felt sense of safety by settling into calm. The new sensory input we experience supports neuroplasticity, helping us build new patterns of ease over time.

Somatic yoga is a gentle, felt-sense approach to practice. Rather than focusing on what a pose looks like, we focus on what we feel in the body as we move through it.

In this practice, we'll move slowly and intentionally using breath, gentle movement, and body awareness to help shift the nervous system out of stress and into ease. This isn't about achieving a pose. It's about coming home to your body, one breath at a time.

Today we joined our friends at The Village- Richmond to spend time investing in one of the most important tools we have: ourselves. 💚

We participated in a professional development training focused on coping skills, calming strategies, and co-regulation—learning practical ways to help both ourselves and the children we serve navigate big emotions.

We left with new strategies, meaningful conversations, and a renewed commitment to creating environments where every child feels safe, understood, and supported.

Here’s to growing together—for ourselves, our families, and the incredible children we have the privilege of serving. 🌱💚

Special thanks to Breathe Yoga Therapy with Ali Webb for the amazing information!

I had the honor of presenting a break out session at the Virginia Summer Institute for Addiction Studies this week on Somatic Yoga Therapy: Nervous System Regulation for Addiction Recovery.

As a yoga therapist, I'm often explaining what yoga therapy is and how it's "probably not what you're thinking 🙂". It was amazing to be in front of a room full of addiction professionals and being able to share the tools and practices of yoga that can be easy accessible to all clients at all levels of care and in any size room.

I've been leading yoga therapy groups for addiction recovery for 3 years and one of the most common things I hear from participants when I walk into a new group is "I'm not doing yoga". Closed off, minds made up, not doing it. So I invite them to just stay in the room, they don't have to do anything they don't want to, just be there.

"Yoga" often feels inaccessible, expensive or "not for me". It's my mission to demystify the ancient practices of yoga so that these tools not only feel available, but that clients feel empowered to use them in their own recovery. Learning to trust that they have everything already inside themselves to regulate their nervous system and build a wider window of tolerance for life's challenges.

I emphasize that anything can be "yoga" as long as the brain and the body are paying attention to each other, sometimes it's bouncing a ball, sometimes it's a whole body shake, sometimes it's playing hand clapping games like we're on the playground. While skeptical at first, after just a few minutes there's laughter, ease, playfulness and regulated nervous systems that are now more open to change.

Thank you to Virginia Summer Institute for Addiction Studies and Virginia Association of Addiction Professionals for hosting me and thank you to all who attended, participated, asked questions and shared insights! I'm grateful to have the opportunity to share with this incredible community of professionals!
