The most common problems we see with home build ramps and even professional ramp builds are incorrect mesh placement, the mesh diamond is too big, the support structure of the ramp surface is too spaced out or the radius is too inconsistent.

They are all what seem like small mistakes but they each have a negative effect on the ramps performance.

Constant radius or US style super kickers? US style super kickers actually spin faster off the lip.. This is not an ideal situation for Double flip combos.

The constant radius super kicker spins slower off the lip which allows your body to maintain a central position of the take off which sets you up much better to do the combo.

If you are chasing more pop or are having trouble spinning flips. Instead of pushing the ramp back, or propping it up in place. Push the ramp in a couple feet and prop it up 6-12 inches.

This slows down your approach speed and allows you to power off the ramp better. It will pop you off the ramp smoother. It’s great for getting the front end high to initiate whips or to really get a flip spinning for a ruler flip

Tire pressure for FMX is more about rolling resistance than traction. Adjusting your tire pressure plus or minus 1-2 psi can help you carry a consistent entry speed into the ramp regardless of the run in surface and angle!

Common fmx language will always say you “pull” for a backflip. But this could not be further from the truth.

Pulling on the handlebars will have a recoil effect and will pull the bars into your stomach after you take off.

Instead, think of initiating the backflip as a weight transfer. Our arms are along for the ride, hanging tightly, but certainly not pulling, and we are shifting our body weight backwards.

Steering dampening is essential as you progress through FMX. Just like anything else...if something isn’t where you left it, it is hard to find. Well your handlebars are no different.

GPR stabilizers ensure that your handlebars are always where you left them, making the last minute return from tricks much easier to manage.

Join edge to receive a discount code inside the app to save $$ on your GPR stabilizer!

Although they’re called flip levers, they should actually be called trick levers. Using levers on upright tricks can actually massively speed up your progress.

Flip levers give you leverage to get back onto the bike in tricky situations, whether you’re upside down, or right side up. So if you’re looking to progress, invest in some!

Did a lull in the sport’s progression nearly kill FMX?

Edge founding member Adam Jones talks about how he felt at a certain point in his career his age group of riders was holding up progression by not giving the next generation their opportunity to shine.

What tricks you pick to learn next can mean the success, or failure of the endeavor. There is a general outline of what tricks to learn, and in what order, that gives you the best chance for success.

At Edge, we can help you create a game plan, depending on where you are currently stuck. You may want the big trick next, but sometimes the one you learn in between can actually be the one that gets you there!
