We appreciate everyone who has taken the time to read, comment, and ask questions about the upcoming training & certification updates. Your feedback is important, and we understand these changes have generated discussion throughout North Carolina's fire service.

To help answer some of the most common questions, we've attached additional information that explains:
• Why these instructor upgrades are required
• The role of IFSAC and Pro Board accreditation
• Why this is not a new process
• How OSFM is working to support instructors throughout the transition

Our shared goal is to ensure North Carolina's Fire & Rescue certification system remains nationally accredited, respected, and aligned with current NFPA standards while providing instructors with the resources and opportunities they need to successfully complete the transition.

As implementation details are finalized, we'll continue sharing updates through our website, Training & Certification Bulletins, and official social media channels.

📢 Relief Fund Reporting Reminder

The annual Relief Fund Financial Report and corresponding bank statements must be submitted by October 31st!

Submission by the deadline is required for your department to be eligible for Relief Fund disbursement.

Don’t wait until the last minute!

We encourage departments to submit their report early to allow time to address any issues and ensure all required supporting documentation is received by the Oct. 31 deadline.

EV/AFV Incident Management: Safety and Response Techniques

As the number of electric vehicles on the roadways increases, it is important for first responders to understand how a response involving these types of vehicles is different than those with an internal combustion engine. This awareness and fundamentals course will introduce first responders to hybrid and electric vehicles, share data and resources, and equip the first responder with the knowledge and tools to respond more safely when a hybrid or electric vehicle is involved in an incident.

The Power of Hope: Strengthening Resilience and Wellbeing in First Responders

First responders face unique and repeated stressors which wear down the systems for resilient thinking. This course explores the role of hope in first responder resilience. The course examines Dr. Richard Snyder's Hope Theory and how it can be used to enhance resilience, wellbeing, and purpose for first responders - both personally and within your department. Topics include hope as it applies to moral injury, trauma, and agency, and the role of leadership, mentors, and peer support in cultivating hope in their responders.
