We care more about students who practice with integrity than students who advanced quickly.

Integrity in every rank means white belts and black belts are held to the same character standards. Skill advances. Technique improves. Belts change color. But character expectations? Those stay constant from day one.
1. Respect is non-negotiable
A white belt bows to their instructor with the same respect a black belt does. A black belt treats a beginner with the same patience they received when they started. Rank doesn't earn you the right to cut corners on respect. Humility tracks with increased skills.
2. Honesty about effort matters at every level
We expect students to be honest about whether they practiced, whether they're
ready, whether they gave their best. That expectation doesn't change when the
belt gets darker. If anything, it gets stricter.
3. Effort is the baseline
Some days are harder than others. Some drills feel impossible. But showing up
and giving real effort isn't optional for any rank. A black belt who coasts teaches
white belts that coasting is acceptable. It's not.
4. Why this matters
Some schools let standards slide as students advance. They assume character
is "already developed" by the time someone reaches a higher rank. We don't
assume anything. Integrity is taught, modeled, and expected at every level
because this trait shapes who students become far more than any belt ever
could.
