Saturdays at Heartwood 💜
Three classes. Three different ways to move.
9 AM · Classical Mat Pilates
Build strength, find your center, and move through the classical Pilates repertoire.
10 AM · Pilates Playground
Four stations. Different equipment. Plenty of room to explore, play, and try something new.
11 AM · Restorative Mat + MELT
Slow things down with mobility, recovery, and MELT techniques designed to help you leave feeling a little better than you came.
Come for the class that speaks to you — or make a morning of it.

Come for the movement. Stay for the recovery.
I’m so excited to introduce Kira Davis, who will be teaching Friday mornings at Heartwood Pilates!
🕙 10:00 AM – Reformer Foundations
🕚 11:00 AM – Restorative Mat & MELT
Kira’s path to teaching has been shaped by both movement and resilience. From ice hockey and dance to yoga and circus arts, she’s always loved to move. After surviving a serious car accident as a teen and later experiencing a significant back injury, she discovered that flexibility alone wasn’t enough—she needed strength and stability.
Pilates and MELT became the tools that helped her rebuild, manage pain, and regain confidence in her body. That lived experience now shapes the way she teaches: with curiosity, compassion, and a deep appreciation for helping others move with greater ease.
Kira has a special interest in working with low back pain, arthritis, plantar fasciitis, bunions, balance, postural alignment, pelvic floor and deep core function, SI dysfunction, TMJ issues, and recovery from injury.
Whether you’re looking to build a stronger foundation on the reformer or unwind with gentle restorative movement and MELT, you’ll be in wonderful hands.
“It is an honor to be part of the process that helps your body move through space with ease.” — Kira
We can’t wait for you to meet her. 💜

When people walk into Heartwood, I hope they notice more than the reformers.
The handmade ceramic hooks.
The community board.
The little comforts in the restroom.
The glasses waiting to be shared after a workshop or community gathering.
Every detail was chosen with intention, because I believe how a space feels matters just as much as what happens inside it.
And then there are the things that can’t be bought.
One of my favorite treasures in the studio: a tiny pin of my logo my son made for me and a note that says, “Mommy, I made this pin for your Hartwood Palotes.” 💜 phonetic spelling. Next to it is a LEGO tower system he built, complete with rollback bar and a little guy doing reverse push thru.
They make me smile every time I see them. More than that, they remind me that Heartwood wasn’t built by me alone. It’s been encouraged, cheered on, and lovingly supported by the people closest to me.
None of these details will improve your Hundred or your Teaser.
But together, they create something I care deeply about, a space where people feel welcomed, cared for, and connected.
Welcome to Heartwood. 🩶

If we’ve never met before, hi! I’m Maureen.
I’m the owner and instructor behind Heartwood Pilates here in NE Portland.
Movement has shaped so many parts of my life. It has challenged me, grounded me, and reminded me that strength isn’t just about muscles, it’s about feeling capable in your own body.
Before opening Heartwood, I spent years teaching Pilates in my home studio while also teaching photography at the college level. This studio is the realization of a dream that’s been quietly growing for a long time: creating a welcoming neighborhood space where people can move, breathe, connect, and feel at home.
My classes are small by design so I can get to know each person and help you build confidence, whether you’re stepping onto a reformer for the very first time or have been practicing Pilates for years.
When I’m not teaching, you’ll probably find me rock climbing, snowboarding, spending time outdoors with my family, or getting lost in a good book.
I’m so grateful you’re here following along as Heartwood begins this next chapter. I hope we get to meet in person soon.
❤️ Maureen

Give yourself 50 minutes to slow down, move gently, and reconnect with your body.
Restorative Mat & MELT blends gentle Pilates movement, stretching, and MELT techniques using soft rollers to help ease tension, improve mobility, and leave you feeling more connected and restored.
This class is for anyone who wants to move and feel better without pushing harder. No Pilates or MELT experience is needed—just come as you are.

They’re here. 🤍
For a long time, this has been a vision in my head. Countless sketches, floor plans, decisions, late nights, and moments of wondering if this day would ever actually come.
Now it’s real.
Next week, I’ll begin welcoming clients into small-group equipment classes designed to help you move with more strength, confidence, and ease. With only four people per class, everyone receives individualized attention while still enjoying the energy of moving together.
I honestly can’t wait to watch this room come to life.
Thank you to everyone who has supported Heartwood already, whether you’ve taken a class, shared a post, told a friend, or simply cheered me on. You’ve helped make this possible.
Here’s to new beginnings!
Equipment classes begin next week.

What if your Pilates class left a little room to play?
Pilates Playground is a small-group equipment class built around movement, curiosity, and exploration.
We’ll move through four different stations, using a mix of Pilates equipment and apparatus. Each station offers a new way to build strength, challenge balance and coordination, and experience movement in your body.
You’ll always have guidance and a place to begin but you’ll also have room to explore. Repeat something that feels good. Change the range. Slow it down. Get curious.
Because some of my favorite movements have come from simply getting on the equipment and asking, “What else could I do here?”
That’s the spirit of Pilates Playground.
Come move. Come play. You might even teach me something. 🤍

It felt so good to teach in the new studio this morning and especially fitting that my first client of the day was also one of my longest standing clients and a dear friend.
She has been part of Heartwood through so many chapters along the way. So to begin this new chapter together felt pretty special.
After so much planning, decision making, painting, moving, and imagining what this space could become, today I finally got to do the thing at the heart of all of it: teach.
And it felt like home.
Thank you, Gretchen, for being part of the journey, helping in the planning when indecision crippled me, and for being the very first client through the doors. 🤍
