I’ve had a few former students from SC check in recently and shared they’d been feeling a little flat and not really into practicing.
When I asked what goal they were working on, all you heard was 🦗 🦗 🦗

Without a goal, aren’t ya just kinda going through the motions? I’ve gotten caught up in it personally, too, with lifting or even hockey.
But EVERY TIME I set aside some time and get honest with what I want to achieve, that fire is LIT, and I’m hungry!

What is one of your goals now? Let’s go short-term.

Examples: a speed goal, lower your walks in your next game (or have none!) certain first pitch strike percentage— the important thing is that it’s YOURS. Don’t compare your goals to those of others— we’re all on a different path!

HELP!

POV: you’re a pitcher, and you just SLIPPED. You release the ball immediately, and you feel it in your gut. It’s a little slower, and it’s sauntering to the center of home plate. It’s a batter’s DREAM, juicy and full of promise.

What do YOU call this pitch??
I’ve heard a lot of different names over the years, and I’ve always called it a meatball. HBU??

When was the last time you really revisited fundamentals? Oftentimes, big shift like getting started with a new team or moving up to the college level can bring up a lot of tension- physical and mental.
Take it back to basic drills, and let the ball flow.

Honestly, this applies to any athletic endeavor.

of Brooke, now getting ready to start college life at College of Charleston 😱😱 how does time fly??
While Brooke’s pitching was intense and effective, she’s elected to focus on her killer shortstop skills and impeccable batting (over 25 home runs in her softball career 🤯🤯🤯)

To put this strategy into play, imagine how great it will be when you achieve your goal. Create the image in your mind. See it. Feel it. Then...
Think about the work that will get you there. Backwards plan. If you want to feel confident pitching in a high-pressure game, ask yourself what work needs to put in. Ask yourself what obstacles need to be overcome. Be honest with yourself.
Do you tend to get lazy in the afternoons?
Do you tend to feel less confident when facing certain opponents?
Use that information to make a plan. Then... get after it.
